Overview
Ocarina of Time
Main article: Darunia
Darunia is the Goron Chief for the duration of Ocarina of Time.[5] He is a sworn brother to the King of Hyrule.[6]
When Link arrives at Goron City, Darunia will have shut himself in his Room with the Spiritual Stone of Fire to wait for a messenger from the Royal Family of Hyrule.[7] Link can meet with him by playing "Zelda's Lullaby" outside of his door. However, Darunia is already angry about the lack of food caused by the infestation of Dodongo's Cavern, and he is offended when he sees that Link is a child.[6] If Link plays "Saria's Song" for him, Darunia will calm down and begin dancing, after which he asks Link what he needs.[8] He then tasks Link with defeating the Dodongos within Dodongo's Cavern to prove himself worthy of the Spiritual Stone.[9]
Upon leaving Dodongo's Cavern after defeating King Dodongo, Darunia appears to congratulate Link.[10] He realizes that Ganondorf likely blocked the Cavern's entrance after being denied the Spiritual Stone of Fire.[11] Since Link put himself in a dangerous situation to save the Gorons, Darunia offers to become his sworn brother. He gives him the Spiritual Stone as a symbol of their connection.[12]
After Link awakens from his seven-year slumber, he learns that Ganondorf's forces took most of the Gorons to the Fire Temple so that they could be eaten by Volvagia. As the Goron Chief, Darunia has left Goron City to save them.[13][14] Darunia recognizes Link when the reunite at the Temple, and he explains that his goal is to defeat Volvagia to not only save the Gorons, but to protect the rest of Hyrule as well. While he is not in possession of the Megaton Hammer that his ancestor used to defeat Volvagia in the past, he feels as though he has no choice but to face it.[15] He requests that Link free the captured Gorons while he fights Volvagia.[16]
Once Link defeats Volvagia himself, Darunia appears before him in the Chamber of Sages. He thanks him for his help saving the Gorons, and he reveals that he has awakened as the Sage of Fire.[17] Darunia then gives Link the Fire Medallion.[18] As Link leaves, Darunia states that they are now true brothers.[19]
Twilight Princess

Darbus serves as both the Goron Chief and Patriarch during the events of Twilight Princess.[5] One of the Village Elders, Gor Coron, was the previous Chief.[20]
Breath of the Wild
100 years prior to the events of Breath of the Wild, Daruk was the Goron Chief.[21] He was appointed as a Champion and piloted Divine Beast Vah Rudania.[22] When the Great Calamity occurred, Daruk was separated from his Divine Beast, allowing it to be overtaken by Fireblight Ganon. He was killed while trying to reclaim Vah Rudania, causing his Spirit to be trapped within it for a century.[23][24]
During Breath of the Wild, Bludo is the current Goron Chief and the founder of the Goron Group Mining Company.[25]
Tears of the Kingdom

Echoes of Wisdom
In Echoes of Wisdom, the Goron Chief is responsible for leading the Gorons, who reside in Goron City on Eldin Volcano. In ancient times, Gorons who wished to become Chief would have to face the Crater Shortcut's trials and cleanse themselves in the Crater itself. This custom is no longer practiced.[26]
The current Goron Chief is Darston, who recently succeeded his father after he passed away.[27] Darston's father was supposedly serious when it came to his responsibilities, and Darston is said to resemble him.[28][29] The Chief had a portrait of himself hung up in his quarters in Goron City to block the entrance to the Crater Shortcut.[30][31] However, he made Darston promise to take it down and hang up his own portrait once he inherited his title.[32] When he passed, he left Darston the Goron Chief's 56 Nuggets of Wisdom, which are a series of mottos intended to help him lead the Gorons.[33][34]

It's a path used by Goron chiefs back in the day. Only after going through its trials and cleansing in the crater could a Goron become chief. The custom faded long before our time though.
