The Great Fairy Shrine is a Cave on an island in the center of Lake Hylia that is home to the Great Fairy. Two standard Fairies float above the shallow pools on each side of the Shrine's interior. By approaching the pool at the center, Princess Zelda can awaken the Great Fairy, who immediately looks her over and decides that she is a "diamond in the rough".[2] The Great Fairy offers to make Zelda more stylish by increasing the amount of Accessories that she can carry at a time,[2] in exchange for Rupees.[3] She rationalizes the fee as a helpful way to remove any stress of a surprise cost, so she only accepts money upfront for her services.[4] Despite this, she is quick to lose her benevolent demeanor and express her greed.[5] For each successive limit raised, she will increase the cost. The list of upgrades and their costs are as follows:
Zelda is only able to increase her Accessory limit to five total slots before the Great Fairy declares that she has done all she can to teach—and charge—her.[6][7][8] If Zelda reenters the Great Fairy Shrine after increasing her Accessory slot limit to the maximum, she can find a Treasure Chest containing a single Might Crystal. The Great Fairy will appear if she opens the Treasure Chest to call her out on her rudeness to take other people's belongings.[9] However, she quickly forgives Zelda as she does not consider Might Crystals to be valuable.[10]
Noticing that Zelda seems to be interested in the Might Crystal, the Great Fairy offers her a deal: in exchange for bringing her jewelry, the Great Fairy can make something that will help Zelda find more Might Crystals.[11] She explains that she wants jewelry from a Gerudo artisan in Gerudo Town and dismisses Zelda without another word,[12] beginning the Side Quest "The Great Fairy's Request".
After receiving the Lovely Pendant from the Gerudo artisan at the Gerudo Shop, Zelda can give it to the Great Fairy who happily takes it.[13] In exchange, the Great Fairy gives Zelda the Might Bell, an Accessory that rings whenever a Might Crystal is nearby.[14]
