Biography

Breath of the Wild}

Guy is a Rito who can be found resting next to the oasis in the Kara Kara Bazaar. He is originally from Rito Village, [5] but he left his home for the Gerudo Desert in order to earn money.[6] When Link first speaks to Guy, he asks if they have met before.[7] If Link asks about Rito Village, Guy describes it as a modest village on the Tabantha Frontier.[8] Alternatively, if Link says that he has been to Rito Village before, Guy remarks that he must have found it cold.[9]

Due to the Heat of the Gerudo Desert, Guy has been unable to continue on his journey.[10][11] Despite not being allowed inside, he would like to see what Gerudo Town looks like.[12] He then mentions that he has heard of a cooling Elixir that is made from Insects with cooling effects and Monster Parts.[13] Guy says that they are not selling the Elixir anywhere and he is not good at Cooking.[14][15] However, Guy has heard that insects with cooling effects live in the cold parts of the Gerudo Highlands,[16] but because of how rough the monsters are there, he has had a hard time motivating himself to gather the [17] After speaking with Guy, Link receives the Side Quest "An Ice Guy".

If Link speaks to Guy again, he will mutter under his breath that he is allergic to "monster punches".[18] He regrets coming to the Desert without a cooling Elixir and wishes someone had mentioned the Heat before he came all the way there.[19][20] He also feels that the nights in the Gerudo Desert are a nice break from the Heat,[21] but that the night is also scary.[22] Guy admits that he is afraid of the dark.[23]

When Link returns to Guy with a Chilly Elixir, he will thank Link, as he can now leave the Gerudo Desert during the day.[24] He rewards him with a Purple Rupee.[25] He will also teach Link that the Gerudo word for "thank you" is sarqso.[26] When Guy is finished speaking, the Side Quest is completed.

Although Link gives him the Chilly Elixir, Guy never leaves Kara Kara Bazaar. At night, his excuse is that the Desert is not safe during this time.[27] However, he does not leave during the day either, saying that there is no rush and that he might leave tomorrow.[28] Guy also says that he never understood how hot the Desert was before he experienced it.[29] He also mentions his son, saying he will have to get him to travel as well.[30]

Guy greets Link based on the time of day, correcting himself with the Gerudo word along with it. When he says "good morning" to Link, Guy amends his words and says that the Gerudo word is "sav'otta".[31] In the evenings, Guy shares that the Gerudo word for "good evening" is "sav'saaba".[32]

Tears of the Kingdom

In Tears of the Kingdom, Guy can still be found at Kara Kara Bazaar. He will greet Link with a partial Gerudo greeting, noting that he has picked up the language by spending so much time in the desert.[33] If the Sand Shroud has not yet been cleared up, Guy informs Link about it, noting that as a Rito he could simply fly over it.[34] Guy then bids farewell to Link with another mixed-up Gerudo term, "goodvorq."[35]

After the sand shroud is cleared (the Lightning Temple is completed), he will admire the clear view and safety. Guy notes he has grown fond of his spot at the oasis, intending to bring his family to live there with him.[36] If Link inquires about his family, he will reveal that his wife is the proprietor of the general store in Rito Village (Misa), and that his son opened a shop of his own in a new village in northeast Hyrule (Fyson).[2] However, Guy laments that due to their businesses it will be a long time before they can join him.[37] Guy once again uses "goodvorq" to say goodbye to his hometown.[38]

Nomenclature

Guy's Japanese name ギネマー (Ginemā) is a corruption of ねぎま (negima), a type of yakitori skewers made with chicken and scallions. His English name may be vaguely derived from this, though it seems mainly to serve as a pun for the name of his Side Quest, "An Ice Guy" ("a nice guy").
