Hint Photo

Hint Photos are a mechanic in Majora's Mask 3D.^[1]

Overview

Hint Photos are still images viewable from within the Sheikah Stone inside the Clock Tower in South Clock Town. They depict the locations of many of Majora's Mask 3D's Pieces of Heart—all except those won from Mini-Games—and all of its Stray Fairies, and are meant to guide the player to them. They are displayed in the Visions menu, with any uncompleted Hint Photos being placed at the top of their category's list.

At the onset of Link's adventure, no Hint Photos are available. Hint Photos depicting Pieces of Heart become available at several key points in the game, while all 15 Hint Photos of Stray Fairies for a given Dungeon become available once that Dungeon is completed. When a Hint Photo is viewed for the first time, a green checkmark is added to the corner of its entry. When the Item depicted in the Photo is collected, green text reading "Got it!" is further added to the entry.^[2] Once all Hint Photos in a category are resolved, a golden medal is added to the category icon.

While Hint Photos reveal the location of most of the game's Pieces of Heart and Stray Fairies, Hint Movies are another type of Vision that give hints for the game's main story.

Unlike with Visions in Ocarina of Time 3D and Skyward Sword, it is possible to have all Hint Photos and Hint Movies marked as "clear", because the game saves the progress made following the final battle with Majora's Mask.
