Ice Block
Ice Blocks are recurring Objects in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][name references needed] Ice Blocks go unnamed in Link's Awakening, The Minish Cap, and Cadence of Hyrule.
Location and Uses
Link's Awakening
Ice Blocks are Blocks of extremely cold Ice that appear in Turtle Rock in Link's Awakening for Nintendo Switch.[3] They function differently than they do in other games, blocking paths as opposed to being Pushable Objects. They can be melted using the Magic Rod.[4]
Ocarina of Time
Ice Blocks appear in the Ice Cavern and Ganon's Castle in Ocarina of Time. They can be pushed around and climbed on in order to reach elevated areas. Ice Blocks cannot be destroyed, though they can be pushed into bottomless pits.
Majora's Mask
Blue Chuchus can be frozen with Ice Arrows to form Ice Blocks in Majora's Mask. These Ice Blocks can then be climbed in order to reach elevated areas. After a period of time, the Ice Blocks will defrost and return to being Blue Chuchus.
Oracle of Seasons
Ice Blocks appear in the Sword & Shield Maze in Oracle of Seasons.
Twilight Princess
Ice Blocks appear in caves and in the Snowpeak Ruins in Twilight Princess. Unlike other iterations, these Ice Blocks contain actual Blocks within them. They cannot be melted.
The Minish Cap
Ice Blocks appear in the Temple of Droplets in The Minish Cap. They can be pushed, sliding along Ice until they strike another surface; the Temple of Droplets utilizes this mechanic in several puzzles where Link must use Ice Blocks to press down Floor Switches or push them out of the way to clear a path. Special Ice Blocks known as Key-sicles contain Small Keys and the Big Key for the Temple of Droplets; they can be melted with Light Beams.
Other Appearances
Cadence of Hyrule
Ice Blocks can be found within the Frozen Grotto, or created by freezing Enemies with Ice Arrows, the Ice Rod, or Scrolls of Freezing. They can be pushed around by default and can be pulled using the Power Glove. Fire-based attacks such as fireballs launched by the Fire Rod, Fire Wizzrobes or Octavo's Fireballs or by coming into contact with Hot Coals. Enemies can sometimes be found trapped inside of Ice Blocks.
