Lester is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[2][3]
Biography
Breath of the Wild
Lester is a Hylian man who works at Rito Stable on the Tabantha Frontier. He spends his days sitting by the Cooking Pot outside of the Stable.
When Link first speaks to Lester, he admits that he enjoys spices.[4] In particular, he likes the spiciness of Curry Rice.[5] While he has the Hylian Rice he needs in order to make it, he has run out of Goron Spice.[6] However, he is unable to leave Rito Stable to acquire it.[7] Therefore, he asks Link to bring him Goron Spice if he ever has some.[8] If Link agrees, Lester will thank him, as Curry Rice keeps him warm.[9] The "Curry for What Ails You" Side Quest will then begin.
After obtaining Goron Spice, Link can return to Rito Stable to give it to Lester.[10] Once Lester has confirmed its authenticity, he offers to buy it from Link for 50 Rupees.[11] If Link agrees to this deal, Lester will be relieved that he can make Curry Rice to keep warm.[12] He then gives Link a Purple Rupee.[13] Lester asks Link to bring him more Goron Spice if he has it, offering him Hylian Rice in return.[14] He also shares that by Cooking other ingredients with Goron Spice and Hylian Rice, Link can make a variety of curry dishes.[15] When he finishes speaking, the Side Quest will be completed.
If Link speaks to Lester afterwards, he will recognize him and ask if he has any Goron Spice to trade for Hylian Rice.[16] If Link agrees to the exchange, Lester is expresses his joy to be able to make Curry Rice, at which point he gives Link his Hylian Rice.[17] If Link refuses, Lester claims he will not force him to do anything, noting that he looks like he needs a good meal.[18]
Tears of the Kingdom
Lester previously worked at Rito Stable, but it was forced to close due to the Extreme Cold Snap in Hebra.[19] He felt adrift after losing his job, but then Purah asked him to tend to the Horses at Lookout Landing, which he accepted.[20] After the construction of the Mini Stable, he serves as its operator.
When Link arrives at Lookout Landing for the first time, Lester can be found tending to the Horses.[21] Lester recognizes Link, stating that his appearance will cause a stir.[22] Should Link need something, Lester tells him to talk to Scorpis.[23] If Link speaks to him again, Lester remarks that there has been a stir in Lookout Landing since his arrival.[24]
After Link has spoken to Purah, Lester comments on how much the residents have fussed over him.[25] He then explains that he is currently unable to register Horses for Link.[26][27] If Link asks about registering Horses, Lester informs him that Stables are able to transport registered Horses to each other.[28] Roadside Stables also offer Inn services, though there is not enough room for that at Lookout Landing.[29] To that end, he has had Karson begin planning the construction of a Mini Stable.[30] If Link asks Lester about himself, he explains his past at Rito Stable and how he came to Lookout Landing.[19][20] He advises that Link make use of Cold Resistance if he goes to Hebra due to the Extreme Cold Snap.[31]
