Light Dragon
The Light Dragon is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.(TotKTears of the Kingdom | AoIAge of Imprisonment)[3][4]
Biography
Tears of the Kingdom
The Light Dragon is a Dragon Spirit known for flying in the upper areas of the Sky.[1] It is the form that Zelda takes after swallowing her Secret Stone of Time and undergoing the process of draconification, losing her mind and sense of self in the process.[5][6] She does this in order to infuse the Master Sword with her Light powers and restore it back to its former glory, all so that Link can reclaim it in the future.[2][7] Upon her transformation, she shed 11 Dragon's Tears that landed throughout Hyrule. Ancient Hyruleans were able to view Zelda's Memories by interacting with these Tears, and they drew the Geoglyphs surrounding them.[8] As she flies, the Light Dragon passes over each of these Geoglyphs in chronological order.
Several Dragon Parts can be obtained from the Light Dragon. Shards of Light Dragons Spike can be found along her back, while Light Dragon's Scales, Light Dragon's Talon, Shards of Light Dragon's Fang, and Light Dragon's Horns can be obtained from striking various spots of her body. All of these Materials grant Link a healing effect when they are Fused to his Weapon or Shield.[9][10][11][12][13]
The Light Dragon can first be seen after Link Skydives from the Room of Awakening for the first time. As Link explores the Great Sky Island, the Light Dragon repeatedly flies back and forth behind the Temple of Time. After the Decayed Master Sword disappears when Link places it into the Light above the Altar, the Light Dragon flies through the clouds and reveals Hyrule below.[14]
Once Link has viewed all 11 of Zelda's Memories from the Dragon's Tears as part of the Main Quest "The Dragon's Tears", the Light Dragon will appear and shed a 12th Tear on Rist Peninsula.[15] This Dragon's Tear allows Link to witness "Tears of the Dragon", wherein he can see Zelda's transformation into the Light Dragon.[2][16] Following this, the Light Dragon roars above Link, and he watches as she flies away.

The Master Sword is located on top of the Light Dragon's head, where it is tangled in her fur. During the Main Quest "Recovering the Hero's Sword", the Map will track the Master Sword's location with a Marker as the Light Dragon moves.[17] She will also begin flying lower in the Sky once this Main Quest begins, making it easier for Link to reach her. If Link attempts to pull the Master Sword from her head, she will suddenly roar and begin flying erratically. To avoid falling off, Link needs at least two Stamina Wheels. Once he successfully holds on, the Light Dragon will take Link higher into the Sky. The fur holding the Master Sword in place recedes, and Link is able to claim it once again.[18] Afterwards, Link jumps from the Light Dragon's back as she flies past the Temple of Time.
After Demon King Ganondorf turns into the Demon Dragon, the Light Dragon rushes to confront him in the Sky above Hyrule Castle. When Link falls from the Demon Dragon's jaws, she swoops downward to catch him. During the battle, she carries Link high into the air in order for him to land on the Demon Dragon's body. Whenever Link is knocked from the Demon Dragon's body, the Light Dragon will fly toward him so she can bring him upward again. If Link falls too close to the ground, she will intercept him and return to a higher elevation.
At the conclusion of the battle, Link finds himself floating above the Light Dragon. The Spirits of Rauru and Sonia appear behind him, and they channel their powers of Light and Time through him and his Right Arm. This causes Zelda to return to her Hylian form with her Secret Stone hanging from her neck, undoing the process of draconification.[19]

There are stories about the secret stones and a forbidden act called draconification. "To swallow a secret stone is to become an immortal dragon... "one blessed with eternal life."

Yes. But there is still more to those tales... "To become an immortal dragon is to lose oneself." That is why it is forbidden. I thought maybe this could lead to a solution—some way to transcend time... But if you have to sacrifice your heart and mind... Sacrifice what makes you "you"...

Link. I will restore the Master Sword for you. I will care for it until the time comes. I will pour my sacred power into it. It will be the weapon that defeats the Demon King!
— Zelda (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
I see... So the Dragon's Tears were shed by Princess Zelda when she transformed. And the geoglyphs were drawn by an ancient people who touched those memories and saw visions, as you did. Perhaps in the past they were more attuned to that sort of thing than the people of today.
