Lord Jabu-Jabu

Lord Jabu-Jabu is a recurring large whale-like creature that serves as the guardian of the Zora in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][4]
Biography
Jabun from The Wind Waker is thought to be the descendant of Lord Jabu-Jabu from the Era of the Hero of Time.[5]
In the Lakebed Temple of Twilight Princess, sculptures that resemble Jabu-Jabu can be seen. Some of the Zora guards also wear masks that resemble Jabu-Jabu as he appeared in Ocarina of Time.
The large fish statue at Zora's Domain in Breath of the Wild represents Lord Jabu-Jabu.[6]
Ocarina of Time
Little is known about Lord Jabu-Jabu. In Ocarina of Time, he resides upon an altar in Zora's Fountain,[7] a sacred lake behind Zora's Domain, where he is worshiped by the Zoras and acts as a guardian deity similar to the Great Deku Tree.[3] The royal family are tasked with Jabu-Jabu's care.[8] According to Zora legend, offering a fish to Jabu-Jabu is supposed to bring the bearer happiness.[9]
Lord Jabu-Jabu is apparently very benevolent,[7] and the Zora encourage all visitors to see him.[10] After Ganondorf encountered him, however, Lord Jabu-Jabu began displaying outward symptoms of the curse cast on him; as King Zora cites Ganondorf's interference as a reason the whale may have swallowed Ruto, these possibly include changes in his behavior.[7]

Jabu-Jabu is very fond of Fish, and Young Link must feed him one in order to gain entrance to his Belly to kill the parasite Barinade which ails him and save Princess Ruto.
Seven years in the future, Jabu-Jabu is inexplicably absent.
Majora's Mask
Though Lord Jabu-Jabu is not present, Link is able to catch a Fish called Lord Chapu-Chapu in the Swamp Fishing Hole. It resembles a smaller version of Lord Jabu-Jabu. The owner of the Swamp Fishing Hole calls it "the king o' the swamp".[11]
Oracle of Ages

In Oracle of Ages, Jabu-Jabu lives in Jabu-Jabu's Shrine, once again near the Zoras in Zora Village, though the exact relationship between this incarnation and the one that appears in Ocarina of Time is unknown. He appears in both the past and present ages of Labrynna, but in the former, he is too small to enter.[12] As part of his quest, Link must venture inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly in the present to obtain the Rolling Sea, the seventh Essence of Time. However, King Zora will initially prevent the young hero from visiting the deity,[13] and in order to gain his permission, Link must first find a way to save Jabu-Jabu's life by cleansing the polluted Zora Seas.[13] To do this, he must rescue the Fairy Queen, allowing her to purify the filthy seawater.[14]

Lord Jabu-Jabu is a Spirit who lives in Jabul Waters.[4] His Den where he rests is located on Zora River.[15] He is revered by both the Sea Zora and River Zora. They meet together at Crossflows Plaza to play music for him, which is how they ask him to protect Jabul Waters.[16]
After a Rift appears over Lord Jabu-Jabu's Den, he is trapped within the Still World. He is replaced with an Echo of himself, who goes on a rampage across Jabul Waters.[17][18] This includes attacking a Hylian Boat from Seesyde Village.[19][20] During the Main Quest "The Jabul Waters Rift", he swallows Inawa and Rogma, causing the Zora chiefs Kushara and Dradd to chase after him.[21][22] When Princess Zelda, Kushara, and Dradd finally face him in his Den, Tri realizes that they have been dealing with an impostor this entire time.[23] After the Echo is defeated, Inawa and Rogma are saved. While Zelda is traversing the Stilled Jabul Waters, she must use Lord Jabu-Jabu's petrified body as a bridge to reach the Jabul Ruins.
Once Zelda and Tri have mended the Rift, Lord Jabu-Jabu is returned to Crossflows Plaza. Rogma enters Lord Jabu-Jabu's Den to inform Kushara and Dradd of this, and they invite Zelda to join in their celebration.[24] The Zora perform for Zelda at the Plaza, with Lord Jabu-Jabu dancing along. Afterwards, Zelda can visit Jabu-Jabu in his Den's second chamber, where he appears to be content.[25]
During the Credits, Lord Jabu-Jabu can be seen watching as Dradd and Kushara perform together at Crossflows Plaza.

Ho, this letter! It's from Princess Ruto! Hmmm... Let's see... She's inside Lord Jabu-Jabu? That's not possible! Our guardian god, Lord Jabu-Jabu, would never eat my dear Princess Ruto! But since that stranger, Ganondorf, came here, Lord Jabu-Jabu has been a little green around the gills... The evidence seems clear. Of course, you'll go find Ruto. You can pass through here to the altar of Lord Jabu-Jabu. I'll keep this letter. You keep the bottle it was in. Take it respectfully!

Great healer! What do you ask? You wish to enter Jabu-Jabu? My permission is needed to enter Jabu-Jabu, but I can't permit just anyone to see our guardian. Anyhow, the filthy seawater has left Jabu-Jabu near death. If you say you must, then find a way to get rid of this filthy seawater and save Jabu-Jabu. Will you accept this quest?

Crossflows Plaza is where all the Zora and Lord Jabu-Jabu come to be together. The Sea Zora and River Zora join here to play music for Lord Jabu-Jabu. That's how they ask him to keep watching over these waters. But lately... Lord Jabu-Jabu is on the rampage, and the Zora chiefs are squabbling in the worst way.
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
He's usually quite calm. But he's been on the rampage lately. I think it all started when a rift appeared in his den.

Jabul Waters was quiet until that rift came and the Lord Jabu-Jabu impostor rampaged. But if that hadn't happened, this fellow and I would've never become friends.

— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Lord Jabu-Jabu seemed to be upset by the terrible performance and gulped down two of the Zora. The chiefs headed north in pursuit of Lord Jabu-Jabu.
