Mina is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[2][3]

Biography

Breath of the Wild

Mina is a Hylian woman who hunts for treasure with her brother, Mils.[4] The siblings can be found near the Exchange Ruins, in the Gatepost Town Ruins, and at the Rauru Settlement Ruins. When Link encounters them, they will be under attack by a pair of Bokoblins. Mina carries a Traveler's Sword and a Hunter's Shield, which she uses to defend herself.[5][6][7]

While she is fighting, Mina remarks that the Monsters came out of nowhere and accuses Mils of failing to keep watch.[8] She also demands that Link help them.[9] If Mils is knocked unconscious by his attacker, Mina will complain and call him an idiot.[10][11] If Mina was knocked out by a Bokoblin, she will be ashamed and claim she must be losing her edge.[12]

Once the Bokoblins have been defeated, Mina will be relieved.[13][14] The first time Link saves her, she insists that she was not in danger.[15] On subsequent rescues, Mina complains that she would be seen as rude for not rewarding him, even though she never asked for his help.[16] She may also remark that Link uses his sword well and thank him.[17] She rewards Link with either Food or Rupees. When this is done, she resolves to defeat the Monsters by herself next time.[18] Afterwards, she will remarks that she and Mils are lucky to be alive.[19]

Following the Bokoblins' defeat, Mina will supervise Mils as he searches through the rubble.[20] The first time that Link speaks to Mina, she claims that the ruins they are at was once a major population center, but that changed when Monsters ran the people out of town.[21] As a result of this, she believes a lot of treasure has been left behind, which is why she and Mils search for it.[22] If Link has spoken to Mina before, she tells him to look elsewhere for treasure.[23]

As the conversation continues, Mina warns Link to stay away from Hyrule Castle, as it is surrounded by dangerous Guardians.[24][25] Mils chimes in, saying that once a Guardian spots you, you do not have long to live.[26] Mina becomes annoyed, reminding Mils to keep searching for treasure before she gives him something to be nervous about.[27] Mils then complains about family.[28]

When Link speaks to Mils, he says that any treasure at their current location belongs to himself and Mina, though he claims that nobody in their right mind would be searching to begin with.[29] Since Mina decides where they scavenge, however, he has no choice but to follow her orders.[1] Mina then reprimands Mils for wasting time talking, instead instructing him to find treasure.[30] After this, Mils complains about family.[28]

During the "EX Champion Urbosa's Song" Main Quest, which is exclusive to The Champions' Ballad Downloadable Content Pack, Mina and Mils can be found at the rear exit of the Yiga Clan Hideout, outside of Master Kohga's Room. When Link approaches Mina, she explains that they are after the Sacred Orb, which the Yiga Clan stole from the Gerudo.[31] However, she is now considering abandoning this idea while she has the chance.[32] She then becomes scared that the Yiga are planning on throwing the Sacred Orb into the giant pit in their Hideout.[33]

When Link exits the Yiga Clan Hideout with the Sacred Orb, Mina is shocked that he was able to sneak it past the Yiga Clan guards.[34] She claims that it is not fair he stole it, since she and Mils found it first.[35] After Link throws the Sacred Orb into the Yiga Clan Hideout Chasm, Mina scolds him for throwing away such a valuable treasure.[36] She claims that if he did not want it, she would have happily taken it from him.[37]

Nomenclature

Mina is a common nickname for "Wilhelmina" and other similar names.[38] In Sanskrit, the name Mina translates to Fish.[39] Finally, the Persian version of Mina translates to "azure" and "enamel."[40]
