Mount Granajh is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

Mount Granajh is located at the southern end of the Gerudo Highlands. It contains two peaks, a main one at its center and a shorter one to the south known as Daval Peak. A wooden Ruined House can be found near the mountain's central peak, which contains a Campfire, three Barrels, and the Mountain Peak Log. Several shallow pools of Water and Fallen Guardians can be found on the mountain's southern foothills. Since Mount Granajh is situated within a Freezing Climate, Link will require at least two levels of Cold Resistance to traverse it without taking damage.

According to the Mountain Peak Log, an unnamed individual came to Mount Granajh after reading about an Ancient Shrine that could be found there.[3] However, they were unable to find the Shrine, and they were forced to leave after running out of rations.[4]

After reading the Mountain Peak Log, Link will receive the "Secret of the Snowy Peaks" Shrine Quest. The Log hints that one must cast a "cold shadow" onto the Pedestal located on the side of Daval Peak.[5] Using a nearby pool of Water, Link can cast the shadow from a Cryonis block onto the Pedestal. Alternatively, Link can hold up one of the Snowballs surrounding the Ruined House so that its shadow will touch the Pedestal. Using either method will cause Suma Sahma Shrine to emerge from the ground nearby.[6]

Five separate Korok Seed Puzzles can be found on Mount Granajh. The first is a Natural Hiding Spot, disguised as a Rock on a stone pillar at the mountain's central peak. The second is another Natural Hiding Spot west of the center peak. The third and fourth Puzzles are groups of Leaves with Fairy Dust, hidden within a blocks of Ice located to the south and southwest of Daval Peak. Lastly, a Rock Pattern can be found on the foothills south of Daval Peak. Whenever Link completes one of these Puzzles, a Korok will appear and give him a Korok Seed.[7]

In the years following the events of Breath of the Wild, all of the Snow covering Mount Granajh has melted, resulting in the Weather and terrain to be consistent with the rest of Gerudo Canyon. The Deserted House that was previously on the mountain has been dismantled, with only a small remnant of it foundation remaining.

A Hylian named Rahdo resides on top of Mount Granajh, where he is conditioning himself to endure the Gerudo Region's extreme Temperatures.[citation needed] When Link speaks to Rahdo, he will be challenged to a Contest of Endurance.[8] Accepting the challenge will begin the Side Quest "Cold-Endurance Contest!", which requires Link to endure the Freezing Climate on Mount Granajh from 8:30 PM to 4:30 AM while not wearing any Armor.[9][10] During this Contest, Link can equip warm Elemental Weapon, build a Campfire, or eat Spicy Foods to endure the cold. If Link wins, he will be rewarded with a Silver Rupee.[11]

If Link speaks to Rahdo after completing the first Contest of Endurance, he will be able to start "Heat-Endurance Contest!".[12] This Side Quest's conditions are similar to the last one, except Link must endure extreme Heat while wearing no Armor from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.[13][14] Like before, Link is able to equip cold Elemental Weapons and eat Chilly Foods to help him during the Contest. If Link wins, he will be rewarded with a Gold Rupee.[15]

  3. Discovery Log: Day One
I come to this snowy mountain intending to find the ancient shrine that was written about in an old text. "The shrine slumbers near the pedestal on a snowy Gerudo peak." I believe I've arrived at the pedestal mentioned in the text.

  4. Discovery Log: Day... I've lost count.
I can feel that I'm a hair's breadth away from unlocking the secrets hidden within the pedestal. I'm certain that "casting" and "cold" refer to using a specific type of shadow. But I've run out of food entirely, and I doubt now that I ever had the tools to do the job...whatever they might be.

  5. Discovery Log: Day Seven
It's been seven days since I arrived at the pedestal mentioned in the ancient texts. Unfortunately, I'm eating through my food provisions more quickly than I anticipated. On a brighter note, I've found an explanation in the source text that may be the key to this riddle. "When the snow mountain pedestal glows, cast a cold shadow onto its core." I noticed a faint glow to the pedestal for a short while each day. But how to "cast a cold shadow onto its core"...? It seems that this calls for further research here.

  8. You there! You have got to be more than ordinary if you've come all this way. Know my name, Rahdo—the man who withstands! He who endures! Welcome to my contest of endurance, set in the harsh climes of Gerudo Canyon. Can you last? Will you prove yourself? We will each put 50 rupees on the line, and the enduring victor will take all. — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
  9. [I'm in!] That's what I like to hear! All right, then let me explain how this contest of endurance works. To start, each of us puts 50 rupees on the line. Then whoever GIVES their all TAKES it all! The contest will be held on top of those pillars and lasts from evening till dawn! If you can endure the frigid cold for that entire stretch of time, you win. But if you set foot on the ground or run so low on vitality that I determine your life is at stake, you lose immediately! What's more! Let's make this a challenge. Anyone can endure the cold with clothing. So only the very basics are allowed. Otherwise, you can do anything else you want. Now, are you ready? Haven't lost your nerve? — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
  10. Rahdo has challenged you to a contest of endurance. To win, you must stand atop a pillar through the cold of the night in nothing but your underwear.

So long as you do not touch the ground, you're allowed to do whatever it takes to endure.

  11. Never thought I'd be out-endured. But you've got what it takes, I'll give you that. You win, so you get to take all. Here, it's yours. — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
  12. Hey! It's you! Just in time for our fateful rematch too! So? Are you ready for another contest of endurance here in the blistering heat of Gerudo Canyon? — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
  13. [I'm in!] That's what I like to hear! Now, the rules are nigh identical, other than that the contest starts at dawn tomorrow and the cost is 150 rupees. So? Haven't lost your nerve, have you? — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
  14. Rahdo has challenged you to a contest of endurance. To win, you must stand atop a pillar through the heat of the day in nothing but your underwear.

So long as you do not touch the ground, you're allowed to do whatever it takes to endure.

  15. I never imagined that you'd beat me in the heat, but you've really proven yourself. The spoils of your victory, as promised. Winner takes all. — Rahdo (Tears of the Kingdom)
