Mountain Does are large female Mountain Deer covered in shaggy brown fur, which is speckled with light spots along their backs. They are female counterparts to Mountain Bucks.[3] They can be distinguished from them by their lack of antlers and drab-colored chests. Mountain Does can be found throughout deciduous areas in Hyrule Kingdom, usually in the presence of a Mountain Buck.[3] The Hyrule Compendium notes Hyrule Field and the Lanayru Great Spring as areas where Mountain Does are common, but in actuality they are native to most Regions, including Necluda, Faron, and Akkala. Despite their size, Mountain Does are known to be skittish and timid, and they will run away when they spot Link nearby.[3] When idle, Does can be seen grazing and may even lie down to rest. They have a preference for Apples and tend to drop their guard when eating them.[3]
If Link is Stealthy enough, he may be able to mount and ride a Mountain Doe. Though fast, their utility is limited. Should Link bring one to a Stable, the owner will refuse to register it, since this is a service only offered to Horses.[4] When killed, they will drop Raw Prime Meat.

Trivia
- The Mountain Doe is one of nine ridable Animals in Breath of the Wild, with the other eight being the Horse, the Giant Horse, the White Horse, the Lord of the Mountain, the Mountain Buck, the Stalhorse, the Honeyvore Bear, and the Grizzlemaw Bear.
- Of these mounts, the Mountain Doe is one of six that cannot be registered at a Stable.
- The Mountain Doe and the Mountain Buck are the only creatures to have gender-specific entries in the Hyrule Compendium.
- The Mountain Doe strikingly resembles and is likely based on the female sika deer, a large Japanese forest-dwelling deer with spots on its back.

These female deer are often found alongside a male. They're very timid animals by nature, but they tend to let their guard down when eating apples, a favorite food. This tidbit of information can be useful to hunters.

Looks like you've caught yourself a new steed! Do you want to register it? Not a problem. Let me just— Oh, for the love of Hylia... That's not a horse! We only board horses here, stranger. No exceptions.
