Nali is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[2][3]

Biography

Breath of the Wild

Nali is a Gerudo woman who resides in Gerudo Town. During the day, she can be found in the center of Town, occasionally speaking to Pritana.[4][5] At night, she sleeps in her House next to the Barracks, which she shares with Pritana.[6][7]

During Pritana's conversation with Nali, Pritana says she cannot believe that Riju's Thunder Helm was stolen by thieves.[8] Nali then recalls that the Thunder Helm was favored by Urbosa, and she explains that it has been passed from chief to chief for generations.[9][10] Pritana feels sorry for Riju due to how young she is.[11] Nali has heard that the Gerudo guards suspect a group of assassins stole the Helm.[12] With this, Pritana reasons that this must be why the Barracks have been noisy lately.[13]

While Nali is walking around the Gerudo Town market, she asks if Link if he is a Hylian.[14] She claims to be impressed whenever a Hylian is able to cross the Gerudo Desert.[15] Following this, Nali asks if Link is also shopping, revealing that she is searching for Mighty Bananas.[16] If Link asks about Mighty Bananas, Nali explains that they are full of protein and calories and that eating them grants power.[17] Though they are often available at the Kara Kara Bazaar, not many of them are available.[18][19] Quietly, she admits that she is unable to ride a Sand Seal, which means it is difficult for her to make the journey, but she asks Link not to tell anyone.[20] Nali has also heard a rumor about a group that only eats Mighty Bananas, which depletes their stock in the Gerudo Desert.[21]

If Link speaks to Nali after she wakes up in the morning, she comments that it is strange to see a tourist in Gerudo Town and explains that the Divine Beast Vah Naboris has been deterring outsiders.[22] She wishes there were more "brave vai" like Link who are willing to make the journey.[23] After Divine Beast Vah Naboris has been calmed, Nali will be more energetic in the morning.[24] She explains that she was never able to sleep well between the Divine Beast's stomping and Pritana returning home late at night.[25] However, with Vah Naboris's rampage coming to an end, she explains that she wakes up feeling refreshed now.[26]

When Link approaches Nali during the night, she informs him that he will freeze if he leaves Gerudo Town wearing the Gerudo Outfit.[27] Though she would like to invite him to stay at her House, she is already sharing her room with Pritana.[28] Instead, she suggests checking out the Hotel Oasis, as there may still be rooms available.[29]

After Divine Beast Vah Naboris has been calmed, Pritana will note to Nali that the Divine Beast has gotten quiet.[30] Hearing this, Nali realizes that she has not felt any rocking or shaking as of late.[31] Pritana then wonders if this is due to the Thunder Helm being returned to the Royal Palace.[32]

Nomenclature

Many Gerudo in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are named for real-world cosmetics or beauty items. "Nali" may derive from nail.
