Biography

Breath of the Wild

Nell is a Hylian traveler who can be encountered one the western side of the Akkala Bridge Ruins. While there, he can be seen defending himself against a Blue Moblin. He carries a Traveler's Sword and a Wooden Shield, and he wears a tattered piece of cloth that can be found on Soldier's Armor.

While he is under attack, Nell will draw his Traveler's Sword to defend himself.[4][5] When spoken to during his battle, he goads the Blue Moblin.[6] He also states that Monsters do not belong at the Akkala Citadel Ruins.[7]

Once the Blue Moblin has been defeated, Nell will be relieved.[8] If Nell was knocked unconscious, he complains that Link watched as he was beat up, but he still warns him to be careful while traveling.[9] If Link saved him, he may state that he is impressed by how easily he was able to defeat the Moblin.[10] He also has a chance to say that he was overwhelmed facing the Monster, comparing his own fighting skills with Link's.[11] As a reward, he gives Link Food or Arrows.

The first time Link speaks to Nell, he is saddened that he will have to turn back after traveling so far to reach the Akkala Citadel Ruins.[12] Turning to face the Ruins, Nell explains that the Akkala Citadel was constructed long ago in order to protect the Akkala Region.[13] While it was thought to be the impenetrable, the army retreated there during the Great Calamity after losing the Royal Family of Hyrule.[14] Despite their best efforts, the Guardians destroyed the Akkala Citadel, which Nell attributes to the fall of Hyrule as a whole.[15]

When Nell discovered that he had an ancestor who died at the Akkala Citadel, he decided to travel there in order to pray for them.[1] However, upon reaching the Akkala Bridge Ruins, he found that the Akkala Citadel Ruins were still swarmed with active Guardians, making it impossible for him to continue.[16] He warns Link that he has never heard of someone who was able to escape a Guardian after it spotted them.[17] While he does not think Link would be reckless, Nell still warns him to be careful while traversing the Akkala Highlands.[18]

After subsequent rescues, Nell will look out over the Akkala Citadel Ruins from the edge of the Bridge Ruins. When Link speaks to him, he comments that the scale of destruction from the Great Calamity can be seen in the ruins of massive structures and cities throughout Hyrule.[19] Though he wishes he could get a closer look at the Citadel, he does not want to risk his life, and he warns Link to be careful if he decides to go there.[20]
