Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a hybrid console produced and released by Nintendo.[1] It is the successor to the Nintendo Switch.
Overview
The Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of playing software from the Nintendo Switch library, and it is compatible with Nintendo Switch cartridges and digital games.[1] It was officially revealed on January 16, 2025, and it was released globally on June 5, 2025 in most markets.[1] It will not release in China until a later date.[2]
A Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2 occurred on April 2, 2025. During the livestream, it was revealed that several games released on the original Nintendo Switch would receive free updates to enhance their performance on the Nintendo Switch 2. Echoes of Wisdom and Link's Awakening for Nintendo Switch received these updates on June 3, 2025.[3][4] Additionally, special editions for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were released alongside the Switch 2.[5][6] Updates that added support for these upgrades also went live on June 3, 2025.[7][8]
