A maze of Octo Grass in the Pothole Field

In Link's Awakening, Octo Grasses appear as impassable obstacles. To get rid of them, Link can cut them with his Sword, explode them with Bombs or burn them with the Magic Rod. He can also Lift and Throw them at Enemies to damage them. Link can find Items underneath Octo Grass such as Hearts, Rupees and Secret Seashells.[1] He can also uncover dangers like Hoarders and Pitfalls, the latter being notably present in the Pothole Field, a maze made out of Octo Grasses and Pitfalls.

In the beginning of his journey, Link needs to retrieve his Sword to cut down the Octo Grass blocking the entrance to the Mysterious Woods. He also needs to remove an Octo Grass in Ukuku Prairie to reveal the stairs that lead to the Animal Village.
