Biography

Breath of the Wild

Oliff is a Hylian traveler who can be found along the Koukot Plateau Path in the Gerudo Highlands. Previously, he was traveling through the Gerudo Canyon with his friends Sesami, Flaxel, Canolo, and Palme.[3] However, the group was attacked by Monsters on their journey and ended up separated.[4] Oliff carries a Traveler's Sword and a Fisherman's Shield.

Sesami managed to arrive at Gerudo Canyon Stable, but he is still worried about Oliff and their other friends.[5] He asks Link to let his friends know he is waiting should come across them.[6] This begins the "Missing in Action" Side Quest.

During the Side Quest, Link can find Oliff on the northern side of the Koukot Plateau Path, near Joloo Nah Shrine. He will be under attack by a pair of Blue Bokoblins, but he attempts to defend himself with his Traveler's Sword.[7] If Link saves Oliff, he will compliment his fighting ability.[8] He then introduces himself, explaining that while he is capable of fighting, he was caught off guard by the Bokoblins and intimidated by their numbers.[9] Without Link, he believes he would have been in danger, and he is grateful that he arrived.[10] When Link tells Oliff that Sesami is at Gerudo Canyon Stable, he will be relieved to hear he is safe and decides to meet up with him.[11]

At Gerudo Canyon Stable, Oliff says that he is relieved to see Sesami again, but he also feels weak in the knees.[12] He decides to continue training, as he was inspired by Link's swordsmanship.[13] He likens Link's skill to that of the Hylian Champion, who he claims saved Hyrule Kingdom during the Great Calamity.[14] Realizing he was rambling, Oliff excuses himself, but not before thanking Link once more.[15]

When Link speaks to Sesami after saving Oliff, Canolo, and Flaxel, he will be grateful that they are safe, giving him a Gold Rupee as a reward.[16] He claims that the entire group contributed to the reward.[17] Sesami then reveals that he, Oliff, and the others have decided to stop traveling together, since caring for one another is an emotional liability.[18] After Link leaves the Gerudo Canyon Stable, Oliff will no longer appear there.

Tears of the Kingdom

Oliff has become a part of the Monster-Control Crew. He can be found outside of the Hyrule Castle Gate, and he wields a Rusty Halberd.

When Link approaches Oliff, he becomes aware of his presence and turns to face him.[19] Believing that Link came out of the Hyrule Castle Chasm, Oliff is ashamed that he did not see him leave.[20] Despite not being as strong as Link, he is determined to protect Hyrule Castle and its treasures.[21] If Link has already started "Crisis at Hyrule Castle", Oliff will direct him to meet with Hoz at the First Gatehouse.[22] He believes that Hoz will also be surprised to see Link.[23]

Later he warns Link about a nearby Gloom Spawn.[24][25]
