Operation Steal the Ancient Power is an event in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

Operation Steal the Ancient Power was a plan made by Master Kohga as part of the Yiga Clan's investigations in the Depths. After learning about an Ancient Power known as Autobuild, Master Kohga began to seek it out.[2][3][4] Many members of the Yiga Clan were interested in Autobuild, since it would allow them to quickly construct the vehicles they use to traverse the Depths.[2] They also planned to offer it to Demon King Ganondorf so he could use it in his fight against Link.[5] Master Kohga sent a reconnaissance team consisting of two disguised Researchers to the Great Abandoned Central Mine in search of the Ancient Power.[4]

As part of the Main Quest "A Mystery in the Depths", Link can encounter the two Researchers at the Great Abandoned Central Mine, who mistake him for another member of the Yiga Clan.[6] Link's Right Arm is able to reactivate the Steward Construct they were examining, which bestows Autobuild to him.[7] The Researchers then ask him to demonstrate its capabilities for them..[8] Afterwards, they call for Master Kohga, who is initially eager to give credit to the person who was able to find Autobuild.[9] However, upon recognizing Link, Master Kohga becomes angry and proceeds to attack him.[5][10]

After Link defeats Master Kohga, he decides to replicate the manner in which he obtained Autobuild at the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.[11] There, Link can find him unsuccessfully attempting to interface with a Steward Construct.[12][13] Upon noticing Link, Master Kohga accuses him of tricking him and decides to take Autobuild for himself.[14] Following this battle, Master Kohga gives up on Operation Steal the Ancient Power.[1] Instead, he shifts his focus toward gathering Crystallized Charges so that the Yiga Clan can restore their Ultimate Weapon, which they also plan to offer to Demon King Ganondorf.[15] Despite claiming to end the Operation, Master Kohga can be found attempting to activate another Steward Construct at the Abandoned Lanayru Mine, although he insists he was only doing so to kill time.[16]
