Biography

Ocarina of Time

Main article: Darunia

The Sage of Fire is one of the Six Sages that awaken whenever the Sacred Realm is threatened.[5] An ancient Sage of Fire helped Rauru and the other Sages create the Temple of Time during the Era of Chaos.[6] Once Link awakens from his seven-year seal, Rauru tasks him with helping awaken five new Sages, including the Sage of Fire.[7]

When Link arrives in Goron City, he is informed that Darunia left for the Fire Temple in an attempt to save the rest of the Gorons from being eaten by Volvagia.[8][9] Inside the Fire Temple, Darunia recognizes Link and reveals his plan to face Volvagia alone, despite not having the Megaton Hammer.[10] While he does so, he asks Link to free the captured Gorons.[11]

After Link defeats Volvagia, Darunia appears before him in the Chamber of Sages, where he thanks him for helping save the Gorons.[12] Darunia then reveals that he has awakened as the Sage of Fire.[13] He grants Link the Fire Medallion, which he claims contains both the power of Fire and his friendship.[14][15] As Link leaves, Darunia reminds him that they are now true brothers.[16]

Alongside the rest of the Six Sages, Darunia uses his power to construct the Rainbow Bridge, which allows Link to access Ganon's Castle.[17] Later, Darunia appears in the Fire Room once Link has destroyed the Fire Barrier, and he urges Link to hurry.[18] Once Ganon has been defeated, Darunia and the other Sages use their power to seal him in the Dark World.[19] During the Credits, Darunia, Saria, Princess Ruto, Nabooru, and Impa gather together on Death Mountain. Saria can be seen sitting on Darunia's shoulders as the group overlooks Hyrule.

Twilight Princess

The Sage of Fire is a member of the Six Sages. As a Sage, they were tasked by the Golden Goddesses with guarding the Mirror of Twilight in the Mirror Chamber.[20] The Sage of Fire was present at the Failed Execution of Ganondorf, where they assisted the other Sages in activating the Mirror of Twilight to banish Ganondorf to the Twilight Realm.

When Link and Midna find the shattered Mirror of Twilight, the Sage of Fire appears alongside the other Six Sages.[21] They claim that Ganondorf's power, which had been passed on to Zant, was able to shatter the Mirror of Twilight.[22][23] They then reveal where the three Mirror Shards can be found: the Snowpeak Ruins, the Temple of Time, and the City in the Sky.[24] However, the Sages also warn them of the power contained in the Mirror Shards.[25]

Once the Mirror of Twilight is repaired, the Sage of Fire and the remaining Sages appear once more, blaming themselves for Ganondorf's power taking over the Twilight Realm.[26] They ask for Midna's forgiveness, acknowledging her as the true ruler of the Twili.[27] As Link and Midna enter the Twilight Realm, the Six Sages disappear.

Tears of the Kingdom

In the ancient past, the Sage of Fire was a Goron and one of the Six Sages.[1] He was a leader to the Gorons, and during the Imprisoning War, he fought alongside the King of Hyrule Rauru as a Sage.[4][28]

The Sage of Fire can be seen in the Forgotten Temple during "The Sages' Vow" Memory. When Rauru reveals the room containing the Secret Stones, the Sage of Fire recognizes them.[29] Rauru grants the four remaining Secret Stones to the Sage of Fire, Sage of Wind, Sage of Water, and Sage of Lightning, intending to increase their power before facing Demon King Ganondorf.[4][30] As a result, the Six Sages make a vow of loyalty to Rauru.[31]

The Sage of Fire during the Imprisoning War

In flashbacks to the Imprisoning War, the Sage of Fire wields a Boulder Breaker. Despite their strength, Rauru and the Sages were unable to overcome Demon King Ganondorf, and the Sage of Fire appears wounded by Gloom during "The Imprisoning War" Memory.[32] To distract the Demon King, the Sages throw their Weapons toward him, which Zelda returns to them using Recall. This allowed Rauru to get closer to Ganondorf, and he subsequently sacrificed himself to seal the Demon King away.[32] The Sage of Fire witnessed this event.

Following the Imprisoning War, Zelda came to visit the Sage of Fire at the Fire Temple.[33] She warned that Demon King Ganondorf would one day break free from his seal, and she asked him to ensure the Gorons would support Link when the time comes to oppose him.[34] As a result, he vowed that a new Sage of Fire will awaken when the Demon King returns and fight alongside Link.[35] Afterwards, during the "Tears of the Dragon" Memory, the Sage of Fire can be seen with the Sage of Wind, Sage of Water, and Sage of Lightning, watching as the Light Dragon disappears into the Sky.

Throughout the "Yunobo of Goron City" Main Quest, Yunobo and Link hear the voice of the Sage of Fire calling to them from the Depths.[36][37] Once they reach the Fire Temple, the Sage of Fire instructs them to ring the Gongs to release the five Locks, which will allow them to access the Temple's innermost chamber.[38] After Marbled Gohma has been defeated, a Secret Stone will appear before them.[39] When Yunobo touches it, the Sage of Fire will appear before them, introducing himself as Yunobo's ancestor.[1] He expresses his pride in Yunobo's Power of Fire, and he reveals that Demon King Ganondorf sent Marbled Gohma to prevent Yunobo from finding his Secret Stone.[40] Hearing Yunobo's confusion, the Sage proceeds to tell him the story of the Imprisoning War.[41]

Following his retelling, the Sage of Fire warns that, although Goron City has been saved, Demon King Ganondorf still poses a threat to all of Hyrule.[42] Therefore, he asks Yunobo to honor the vow he made to Zelda and fight alongside Link, at which point he disappears.[43] Initially, Yunobo is nervous, believing he is unable to live up to the former Sage of Fire's legacy.[44] However, he realizes that he will be failing Hyrule if he refuses his destiny, so he accepts the Secret Stone and his title as Sage of Fire.[45] To show off his new powers, Yunobo summons his Sage Avatar.[46] Bumping his fist with Link, Yunobo makes the Vow of Yunobo, Sage of Fire, which allows Link to call on Yunobo's Sage Avatar.[47][48]

When Link approaches Gloom's Origin, Yunobo will appear to fight alongside him as the Sage of Fire.[49] After the Demon King's Army is defeated, Yunobo will stay behind to battle another Marbled Gohma summoned by the Demon King, allowing Link to push forward.[50] He later rejoins Link to fight Demon King Ganondorf,[51] but he is soon after attacked by a wave of Gloom and rendered unconscious.

In the secret post-Credits scene, Yunobo accompanies Zelda, Link, Purah, Tulin, Sidon, and Riju as Mineru shows them the Temple of Time. As Mineru disappears, the remaining Sages swear a vow of loyalty to Zelda and Hyrule, similar to the one their ancestors made.[52]
