Sakon's Hideout is a location in Majora's Mask.[1]

Features and Overview

Sakon's Hideout is located in a cave in the southeastern area of Ikana Canyon. The thief Sakon uses it to store his stolen goods, including the Sun's Mask.[2] The entrance is protected by a blast-proof rock door that only Sakon can open.[3] A Sign is posted to the right of the entrance which reads,

Sakon's Hideout
Equipped with walls that can withstand any explosion! Protected by impenetrable internal security!

At dawn on the Final Day, Kafei appears near Sakon's Hideout if Link does not prevent Sakon from robbing the Old Lady from the Bomb Shop on the night of the First Day. This allows Kafei to follow Sakon back to the Hideout as Sakon visits the Curiosity Shop on the night Second Day to sell the stolen Big Bomb Bag.[4] Kafei hides behind a pile of rocks near the entrance and waits for Sakon to return.[5][6]

At sundown on the Final Day, Sakon returns to the Hideout if Link obtained the Pendant of Memories from Kafei on the Second Day and did not prevent the robbery on the First Day.[note 1] Link must remain out of sight or else Sakon will run away and not return.[6][note 2] At exactly 7:00 PM, Sakon opens the door and enters the Hideout with Kafei right behind him. Link may also enter Sakon's Hideout at this point. The door remains open until Link enters Sakon's Hideout or leaves the area.[note 3]

The entrance to Sakon's Hideout leads to an antechamber with a door at the other end leading to the main room. The door seals behind Link as he walks through. In the main room, Link and Kafei find the Sun's Mask sitting on a glass-covered Conveyor Belt. Kafei steps forward to grab the mask and accidentally steps on the Floor Switch which starts the Conveyor Belt. To stop the mask from falling into a hole at the end of the track, Kafei and Link must cooperate with Kafei solving block puzzles and Link fighting enemies. While Link depresses the switch, Kafei enters the first door, which deals with pushing blocks on top of switches. When he solves this puzzle, a door opens on Link's side, where he must defeat several enemies to open the next door on Kafei's side. The security system of the Hideout is made so that Kafei must push the blocks on top of the blue switches in order for Link to be able to go to the next room; likewise, Link must defeat the enemies he encounters so that the door on Kafei's side unlocks, allowing him to go to the next room and do the next puzzle.[7] The two must continue this process until they arrive at the end of the Hideout, where they must each step on one blue switch to recover the Sun Mask.

While on Kafei's side, Kafei must be careful to not step on the red switches, for they increase the speed of the Conveyor Belt; however, stepping on the yellow switches slows it down.

Notes

  1. Sakon will not return to the Hideout unless Link has spoken to Kafei on the Second Day and obtained the Pendant of Memories from him. If Link fails to do so in addition to allowing the robbery to occur, Kafei will wait outside Sakon's Hideout until the Moon falls or the Dawn of A New Day occurs.
  2. Kafei will also wait outside the Hideout indefinitely if Sakon runs away.
  3. This area is limited to the southeastern section of Ikana Canyon on the far side of the tunnel. The door will not be open if Link is elsewhere in Ikana Canyon (or Termina) at 7:00 PM. If Link leaves Sakon's Hideout immediately after entering, he will not be able to re-enter.
