Shrines are Objects that were introduced as part of the Octavo's Ode Downloadable Content update. Shrines appear within randomly-generated Dungeons in Story Mode and Dungeon Mode. They can be activated once by bumping into them. When activated, the shrine may drop items and/or produce an effect that persists until the character leaves the dungeon or falls in battle, or the Boss is defeated.[2] Shrines may also be destroyed using a Bomb, Bombchu, Bomb Fairy or Red Puffstool. When destroyed, most shrines will drop an item depending on their type.

Shrines originally appeared in Crypt of the NecroDancer, wherein they function similarly.
