Swim Timer

The Swim Timer is a mechanic in The Wind Waker.[1]

Overview

The Wind Waker features a Swim Timer which appears whenever Link enters deep water,[1] appearing as a blue and white orb in the lower right corner of the screen that slowly drains as time passes. As Link is unable to dive underwater, the gauge serves only as a limit to how far he can go from land, likely to prevent him from visiting other islands prematurely. The Swim Timer depletes after 30 seconds, at which point Link drowns and respawns on land. If Link drowns while on the open sea, he will respawn aboard the King of Red Lions close to the nearest island.

    Do Not Underestimate the Sea
It's easy to get swept up by a little success at swimming, but the sea can be fickle! Swimming for too long will drain one's energy, and eventually one will sink. Watch the round icon in the bottom right while in the water. This one's swim timer. One should be sure to get back to shore before one's swim timer runs out. If one doesn't, I can't be responsible for what happens next.
