Swim Up Waterfalls is a recurring hidden Added Effect in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Overview

Swim Up Waterfalls is an Added Effect found on the Zora Armor that allows Link to climb up Waterfalls when Swimming near their base by pressing A. Upon reaching the top of the Waterfall, Link will launch up into the air and automatically open the Paraglider. Link's Stamina will immediately begin regenerating as soon as he starts swimming up a Waterfall.

Breath of the Wild

When A is pressed to begin climbing a Waterfall in Breath of the Wild, Link will dash to a set point at the base of the Waterfall and begin Swimming straight up. During the climb, Link will be unable to move sideways nor end the climb early, except by unequipping the Zora Armor.

Tears of the Kingdom

In Tears of the Kingdom, Link can begin climbing a Waterfall from anywhere at its base, or from midair by moving through it while wearing the Zora Armor. He also now has the ability to freely strafe sideways while Swimming up a Waterfall, and he can jump backwards out of the Waterfall at any time. If Link has not obtained the Paraglider, then he will begin falling straight down after launching above the Waterfall.

Link can use Swim Up Waterfalls to exit the Ancient Zora Waterworks and Lake Hylia Whirlpool Cave via the Waterfall at their entrances. When doing so, there will be a short fade to black, followed by Link launching abnormally high above the Whirlpools.
