"People of the area"

Where exactly are these mentioned? I've just gotten to the Fire Sanctuary, so maybe it's explained later, but so far I've seen no trace or mention of any inhabitants to the Sand Sea beyond the Robots and the two Gorons.KrytenKoro 14:56, 2 December 2011 (EST)

Yeah, I played through it and no mention of them either. I was the one that added that part...I remember seeing it on a website somewhere (I found it before the game was released and when Nintendo was releasing ridiculous amounts of info), but upon trying to find it, I had no luck. So yeah, I think we should remove that part. My bad. :P Dany36 20:16, 28 December 2011 (EST)

Just went on the offical site [1] Says "The Ancient Robots perform various tasks for the people of the region" "People" XXSuperXXNintendoXx 22:13, 28 December 2011 (EST)

I think a better term for these beings would be "LD-Series".

Every single robot in Skyward Sword is an LD-series robot. Most of them are LD-301, including the specially-designated Scrapper and Skipper, except for Scervo (LD-002S) and Dreadfuse (LD-003K), which appear to be very early models based on their number. Spoon Link 21:11, 12 December 2011 (EST)

I see your reasoning, but I'm not sure if we should move or not yet. Technickal 19:12, 26 December 2011 (EST)
I don't agree its just two vastly different we should merge Scervo and Dreadfuse though XXSuperXXNintendoXx 22:13, 28 December 2011 (EST)
I agree, except the model number should be included in there, too. I think they are called LD-301 or something like that. Noble Wrot 22:22, 5 January 2012 (EST)
I'm a bit mixed on this. I think more people might think to search "LD-..." because when you ask Fi for information on any of the robots, it says they're part of the LD-301 series. I don't think "Ancient Robots" is ever said in the game. But on the other hand, the official site calls them Ancient Robots... But I must admit, I had trouble finding the page when I first looked them up because I didn't think they'd be called that... Ezluke 14:22, 13 January 2012 (EST)
Calling it the LD Series might be closer to their technical name, but literally no one calls them that when referring to them in discussions, and the official website's designation for them suits them fine. Ganondorfdude11 00:55, 23 January 2012 (EST)
Now in April, conversation on this topic's been stagnant for awhile. I'm in agreement with GD11 - the official guide for Skyward Sword, authorized by Nintendo, and the official website for the game both call them "Ancient Robots", so there's no use in moving them to a less recognizable and appropriate title. What we can do though, is set up a race article for the "LD-Series" and include all the robots in a discussion pertaining to shared characteristics and habitats similar to the articles on the Zora and Goron races. Just as Dreadfuse and Scervo deserve their own articles as significant in-game characters, let's leave the general page on the minor Ancient Robots alone, or at least compactify it to only include information on them. — ciprianotalk 13:18, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
To weigh in on a dead convo...Fi calls them LD-301, and since the games themselves are the greatest indication of what is and is not canon...I'm all for moving them to LD-301. I also like Cip's idea of creating an LD series page describing all the different robots in the LD series (like Dreadfuse, Scervo, skipper, etc.). I'd like to get some more people to weigh in on this. Thoughts?User:Justin ZW/sig 23:54, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
How would we designate them, though? I think "LD-301" is harder to work with, and "Ancient Robot" is still a viable name, even if the game doesn't necessarily call them that.
I'd also like to point out that an "LD-Series" page would, technically, fall under a conjectural title. - TonyT S C 01:43, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I don't understand what the problem is with moving the page to LD-Series. As Justin said, the games are the highest indication of canon. The official website calls them "Ancient Robots" and the game calls them "LD series", or at least every robot in the game is part of this group. Which source is considered "more canon"? I'd go with that name. User:Darkness/sig 01:50, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm not talking about moving THIS page to LD Series...I'm talking about renaming this page to LD-301 (which is what Fi calls them) and making a page called LD-Series (which has a conjectural title, yes) which describes the different LD robots (Dreadfuse, Scervo, and these robots). What's wrong a conjectural title? Sacred Songs has a conjectural title. Besides, we're not talking about moving a previously existing page to that, we're talking about creating it with general information.
Also, LD-301 may be harder to work with, but as far as I'm concerned, it is canon. Hey, we could even call it "LD-301 Robots" if you like. We redirect this to that page, make LD-301 a redirect, and there you go.User:Justin ZW/sig 04:06, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
I'm in favor Dekler 12:25, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm fine with giving LD-301 robots their own page. I'm a little confused, though: don't "LD-Series" and "Ancient Robots" both mean the same thing? Aren't they both terms that describe the whole robot race? If so, then I see no reason to name them "LD-Series" instead of "Ancient Robots." There's no point in using a conjectural title if we have an official one that's perfectly fine. — Hylian King [*] 12:53, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That also makes sense. Well then, unmark this article and just leave it be? Dekler 20:39, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I guess so! — Hylian King [*] 20:42, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Design

The following "Trivia" notes are not trivia, but instead disorganized discussion of the design of the Ancient Robots; it should be reorganized into a "Design" or "Appearance" section, including the naming style.KrytenKoro (talk) 05:08, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • All known Ancient Robots have "LD-" and a model number number prefixed to their names. LD stands for Lanayru Desert, and a similar prefix is found in other languages. For example, the Spanish "Desierto de Lanayru" gives "DL", and the German "Wüste Ranelle" gives "WR". It is interesting to note that the robots were created and supposedly named before the area became a desert.
  • Lanayru considers giving Link a model number, LD-Link-16, but Link isn't fond of the name. The number 16 may refer to Skyward Sword being the sixteenth game in the Zelda canon.
  • The Ancient Robots are based on Dogū, which are clay figurines and pottery found in the Jomon period of Japan.[1] Blueprints of the Sandship can be found in the Lanayru Shipyard, bearing Hylian writing that translates to "Dogu Ship".
  • A symbol found throughout Lanayru Desert and the Sandship appears to be based off the helmet design on the Ancient Robots.
  • This symbol is also reminiscent of the tail of the dragon Lanayru, which would explain its close association with the Robots.

Symbol

Am I the only one who has noticed that there is a similarity between the Wind Crest and the symbol for the LD-300 Series? There might be a possible connection between the Wind Tribe - with whom the symbol of the Wind Crest is associated - and the Ancient Robots, particularly the LD-300 Series, or their inventors. ~~Miles07 (talk) 15:27, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They are similar, but not identical. There's also not significant evidence to connect the progenitors of the Ancient Robots and the Wind Tribe, so their connection is purely speculative. We can't include this sort of information on the wiki, but I would recommend discussing it on Zelda Universe's forums if you'd like feedback. - TonyT S C 16:41, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Trivia Note

The model name LD references lanayru desert, however, we see evidence that the robots were made and operated in a time when the desert was part of the ocean. should we add a trivia note regarding this? Textures from skippers house in skyward sword which depict the robots and the sand ship sailing the ancient lanayru sea, Texture from skippers house in skyward sword which depict ancient Lanayru and Faron before lanayru became a desert VexIsRed (talk) 14:46, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Image found in skippers house of the crew upon the sandship depict a variation of the standard LD-301 which doesn't appear to feature in any other artwork or game, could someone double check if its true it doesn't feature elsewhere. Should we add a trivia note about this. i cant find any reference in Hyrule historian, Encyclopedia or Art & Artifacts. A Zoom in on referenced texture VexIsRed (talk) 15:04, 6 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Disambiguation

We should add a disambiguation note to the page header redirecting folk looking for the guardians present in Breath of the Wild. VexIsRed (talk) 13:09, 8 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Probably. We may even make a Robot (Disambiguation) page. 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 (𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤) 15:11, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
if the theory that the ancient robots were made by sheikah get confirmed, should the page for ancient robots and guardians be merged? VexIsRed (talk) 15:42, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No, because Guardians and Ancient Robots have two different names. Two different subjects that have different names should be kept on seperate pages. Otherwise, we would merge pages for every single type of Chuchu, or every single enemy that has the prefix "Deku." 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 (𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤) 17:02, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
