I have a theory on these guys. And I didn't check if anyone else ever came up with this theory so it could be old news but I think it's very interesting. On the painting behind Impa where we see the battle of 10,100 years ago, but something about it is odd. You can see the monks. Why are they of all people there, on a BATTLEFIELD!!!! Well a guy in Kakariko Village tells us about how the monk in the shrine there was a great swordsmen, so we know at least one was good in battle what about the other 139? (and yes I did check how many shrines (including DLC) there are and added the 7 from the the trial of the sword and then added Maz Koshia then subtracted the number by 1) Well we see from Maz Koshia these guys are incredibly powerful, so much so that if you don't know how to use a sword you would still be very powerful with the powers alone. I'm sorry but I can't help you with that. I don't use Zelda forums often so I don't have much experience. Now, I'm going to ask if we can please end this discussion as it isn't wiki related. Understand the name origins by referring to Japanese names

There are already name origins of some monks. While some are obvious (e.g. Oman Au <-- Aonuma), others seem very confusing. Take the other three shrines on the Great Plateau as an example. How can the origin of Ja Baij be Fujibayashi? While Owa Daim and Iwamoto Daiki share letters in common, the syllables are very different. And what can be the origin of Keh Namut?

However, if you refer to the monks' Japanese names, everything seems much clearer:

• Oman Au -- Ma Ōnu -- Eiji Aonuma
• Ja Baij -- Ja Bashifu -- Hidemaro Fujibayashi
• Owa Daim -- Wa Modai -- Iwamoto Daiki
• Keh Namut -- Toumi Nke -- Tominaga Kentaro

Using this method, I have already found origins of a few more names:

• Daka Tuss -- Data Kusu -- Takuro Yasuda
• Hila Rao -- Hiro Hira -- Hiroki Hirano
• Katah Chuki -- Kata Chuki -- Toyoki Kataoka
• Keh Namut -- Toumi Nke -- Tominaga Kentaro
• Owa Daim -- Wa Modai -- Iwamoto Daiki

The list could go on if I referred to Japanese names of each and every shrine (I've only checked ~25 names) and if I were more familiar with the Japanese language.

Therefore, to understand the name origins better, one should refer to the Japanese names of the shrines.
