Not working?

I've tried using this template on Vire and it doesn't seem to be working. Configuration issue? • Pete | 09:12, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nothing wrong with the template itself. I just changed the {{subst:LA}} to {{LA}}, which got it working. The {{subst:LA}} works fine in most cases, but doesn't work as the alt text of an image in a gallery, as you had it. Check out this for more details on the differences between the two varying ways of using templates. {{:User:Melchizedek1866/sig 10:24, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Ahah, all makes perfect sense now. Thanks. • Pete | 10:28, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's good. :) I just typed this up in response to your comment on my talk page, so I'll whack it here anyway:
Both usages are technically correct. Typing {{TWW}} tells the wiki coding to literally read and copy what is on the template page every time the page is loaded. Typing {{subst:TWW}}, tells the wiki, that when the page is saved, the template is to be replaced with what is actually on the template page, leaving it there permanently, not to just read it off the other page. Both are technically correct, and it is preferable that {{subst:TWW}} is used with the game name templates, because we want it to 'substitute' the template to the page, not just read off it, if that makes sense. The only issue is that {{subst:TWW}} doesn't work in galleries. {{:User:Melchizedek1866/sig 10:34, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
