Temple of the Ocean King: 1F
Temple of the Ocean King: 1F,[1] also known as the Ocean Temple 1F,[2] is a location in Phantom Hourglass.
Features and Overview
Temple of the Ocean King: 1F is the first Floor beyond the Entry Hall in the Temple of the Ocean King. Link first visits this Floor while searching for Linebeck, a sailor who can help Link find the Ghost Ship that has captured Tetra.[3][4] When Link and Ciela enter the Floor, they hear a distant voice calling to them.[5][6] Ciela quickly identifies the source as Linebeck, who stands trapped in a room just north of them.[7]

According to Linebeck, he sprained his ankle while trying to leave the Temple of the Ocean King and requires Link's help to remove the Floor Spikes blocking his way out.[8][9][note 1] He tells Link that some mechanism on the Floor must control the trap holding him, and warns that the Temple is cursed to drain the life of anyone who walks its Floors.[12] After Ciela reprimands him for withholding that information, he continues that some parts of the Floor contain Safe Zones where people can safely walk.[13] He points out the presence of these Safe Zones on Link's Map and advises breaking Pots to recover any lost health from traveling between them.[14]
The Floor is roughly shaped like an hourglass that is divided into two halves. It bears 10 Safe Zones, which are usually found at angles in the terrain. In the center of the Floor is a large stone Door guarding a descending staircase. Called the Door of Power, it bears the Crest of Din and refuses to budge if inspected.[15] Inside a Safe Zone to its immediate left is a Locked Door that separates the northern and southern halves of the Floor, as well as a Shock Switch that retracts the Floor Spikes keeping Linebeck in place. When Link activates the Shock Switch, Linebeck will dash away from his position toward the Floor's entrance.[16]

When confronting Linebeck at the entrance to the Floor, Ciela accuses him of lying about his sprained ankle.[17] Linebeck dismisses her accusation and introduces himself to Link before asking what they are doing in the Temple.[18][19] Upon hearing that they are looking for the Ghost Ship, he accuses them of trying to chase after its rumored treasure.[20] He is quickly corrected by Ciela and opportunistically offers to do what little he can to help Link, despite his allegedly sprained ankle.[21] Tasking Link with searching for clues about the Ghost Ship under the guise of sharing the glory, Linebeck gives him a Small Key that he found somewhere in the Floor.[22][23][24] If spoken to after this, Linebeck sarcastically urges Link to consider his lost friend aboard the Ghost Ship.[25]
With the Small Key, Link can now proceed beyond the Locked Door to the northern half of the Floor. On the way there, he may notice a larger Treasure Chest in the opposite Safe Zone to the right of the Door of Power. Upon opening the Chest, he finds to be puzzlingly empty, but Ciela concludes that it must have been where Linebeck found the Key.[26] The northern section contains two Shock Switches at opposite corners of its maze-like structure, and in ones of the halls near each Shock Switch is a set of Floor Spikes that repeatedly retract and extend. Striking one of the Shock Switches deactivate the nearby Floor Spikes for 15 seconds, during which time Link must quickly navigate to the other corner. Taking the wrong hall could lead Link into a Trapdoor, so he may be forced to take a path with Floor Spikes, carefully timing his run while they are briefly retracted. Hitting both Shock Switches within the time they are active will permanently deactivate both sets of Floor Spikes, and the door to the northern chamber will open, allowing Link to access the Treasure Chest inside. This Chest contains the Southwestern Sea Chart, which holds the first clue to finding the Ghost Ship.[27][28] Upon returning to the entrance with the Sea Chart, Link and Ciela will discover that Linebeck has already left.[29]
Later on in Link's quest, he returns to the Temple of the Ocean King after rescuing Leaf, the Spirit of Power. Using his abilities, he permanently opens the Door of Power,[30] and as there is nothing else to discover on Floor 1F, the group proceeds down the stairs to Floor B1.
