The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary
The 30th Anniversary for The Legend of Zelda series was on February 21, 2016, the Japanese release date of the first The Legend of Zelda. The logo and artwork for this milestone were shown in the September 1st Nintendo Direct. It was celebrated with a new line of The Legend of Zelda-themed amiibo, the release of Skyward Sword on the Virtual Console, three new books, and a series of concerts in Japan.
Events
E3 2016
At E3 2016, Nintendo showed the first gameplay trailer of Breath of the Wild, in which its final name was revealed. They had a livestream of the game on their E3 website for nearly the full duration of the event, in which they showed the new game mechanics, enemies, and the main antagonist, Calamity Ganon. There was also a playable demo of Breath of the Wild at their booth. The booth itself was completely Breath of the Wild themed, featuring a Cooking Pot, full-scale replicas of Link and the Bokoblins, as well as many other aspects.
Art & Artifacts
Art & Artifacts was released in Japan on August 26, 2016 under the name of Hyrule Graphics, published by Nintendo Dream. It was released in North America on February 21, 2017, the 31st anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. This version was published by Dark Horse Comics. It features artwork of the series from The Legend of Zelda to Breath of the Wild, as well as interviews with the artists and never before seen content.
Skyward Sword
Skyward Sword was released for the Wii U Virtual Console on September 1st, 2016, the day of the direct.
The 30th Anniversary The Legend of Zelda Game Music Collection
This Japan-exclusive CD was released on September 28, 2016, and features music from every game in the series except Four Swords, The Minish Cap, and Breath of the Wild.
30th Anniversary Concerts
The 30th Anniversary Concert was a series of concerts performed at Japan in 2016. They feature appearances by the staff involved in The Legend of Zelda series, including Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, Koji Kondo, and Takashi Tezuka. A live album of the concert at Tokyo on October 16, 2016 was also released in 2017.
30th Anniversary Nintendo 3DS Home Menu Theme
The 30th Anniversary Home Menu Theme became available as a redeemable reward on December 1, 2016 as part of the celebration for the launch of the 30th Anniversary line of amiibo. It can be downloaded from My Nintendo for 300 Platinum Points. The top screen features the artwork released for the 30th anniversary, updated to include characters from Breath of the Wild, while the bottom screen has a black pattern reminiscent of the Triforce, along with the 30th anniversary logo. It plays the Fairy Fountain theme from the 25th Anniversary Symphony.
The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo Series
Four new amiibo were also released on December 2nd. These include Link from The Legend of Zelda in 8-bit form, adult Link from Ocarina of Time, and a set with Toon Link and Zelda from The Wind Waker. They act as the normal Link and Zelda amiibo in compatible games, and have a special function in Breath of the Wild.
Encyclopedia
Encyclopedia was released in Japan on March 1, 2017 under the name of Hyrule Encyclopedia. It was released in North America on June 19, 2018, published by Dark Horse Comics. It features an updated timeline as well as a list of all enemies, items, and locations from The Legend of Zelda to Twilight Princess HD.
Breath of the Wild
The nineteenth game in the series for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. The first trailer of the game was shown at E3 2016.
Creating a Champion
Creating a Champion was released in Japan on December 15, 2017 under the name of Breath of the Wild Master Works, published by Tokuma Shoten. It was released in North America on November 20, 2018, published by Dark Horse Comics. It features artwork and concept art from Breath of the Wild, as well as commentaries and interviews with the game's creators.
