Weak Point Gauges are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed]

Overview

Hyrule Warriors

Weak Point Gauges are gauges that appear over certain enemies and Giant Bosses after performing an attack that leaves them vulnerable.[2] Weak Point Gauges will appear for a short time, and deplete as the enemy is attacked. When fully depleted, the attacking Warrior will perform a Weak Point Smash and inflict massive damage onto the enemy. When the Gauge is depleted, an orange ring will surround the enemy. Even if the enemy is tossed away by an attack just as the Gauge is depleted, the Warrior merely has to run into this ring to finish the Weak Point Smash. Warriors can also immediately expose the Weak Point Gauge from any enemy after unleashing a Focus Spirit Attack on them. Weak Point Gauges do not appear for Dark Giant Bosses. Defeating them only requires a barrage of attacks.[3]

In Hyrule Warriors Legends, the animation of the Weak Point Smash against Giant Bosses was reduced to just a burst of Elemental energy.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

The Weak Point Gauge returns, if slightly renamed into "Weak-Point", and works mostly like how it did in Hyrule Warriors, where they appear over certain enemies and bosses after performing an attack that leaves them vulnerable. Special attacks can also expose the Weak Point Gauges but can potentially just kill the target outright.

With the integration of elements from Breath of the Wild, certain circumstances have an influence over the Weak-Point Gauge, such as Fire, Ice, and Electricity-based attacks having a possible influence over a Gauge's integrity, as well as the Perfect Dodge and Perfect Guard mechanics, where the resulting Flurry Rush can deal damage to the Weak Point Gauge off virtually any attack once dodged at the right time, while the Perfect Guard, which is locked to characters that have equipped shields, can expose Weak Point Gauges.

Additionally, certain attacks used by monsters can be countered with timely usage of Sheikah Runes, where the counterattack will deal damage to the Weak Point Gauge, regular damage to the monster's health bar, and leaves them stunned so Warriors can ultimately get Weak-Point Smash attacks off of them.

The amount of damage a Flurry Rush can do to the Weak Point Gauge can be augmented with the "Flurry Rush Damage[+(+)]" Seals.

The Weak Point Gauges of Fire Monsters and Ice Monsters are made more vulnerable to attacks from the Ice & Fire Rods under normal circumstances. The Ice and Lightning Rods also makes a target's Gauge more vulnerable if they are in water. The Lightning Rod also makes a target's Gauge more vulnerable if they are near a metal box.
