Overview

Meetings are the place to discuss upcoming events, share the projects that we are working on, and to ask for help. Meetings currently take place every Saturday at 9:00 PM ET (GMT-5 during standard time or GMT-4 during daylight saving time) in #wiki-general on Discord and last for roughly one hour. There are no limitations on who is allowed to take part in meetings, provided they are present in the Discord server. During the hour prior to the meeting, editors are encouraged to discuss their achievements that they made over the week. Editors are also encouraged to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of other contributors during this time. This process is colloquially known as "the Brag".

Summaries of updates to the Zelda Wiki Trello board are provided at the start of meetings to establish and inform of progress tracked through it.

Meeting Minutes

In order to keep track of progress made through meetings and to provide a resource for anyone not in attendance, meeting minutes are documented below.

Module:Region
  • We switched to use the Australian Aboriginal Flag to represent the release region of Australia, per a discussion with the Australian members of our community. Reasons for this change were provided here.
Featured Articles
  • TriforceTony submitted their sandbox draft for Featured Articles for final approval.
Accessibility
  • TriforceTony suggested creating a channel for accessibility so that people can report issues and discuss ways to improve the wiki's accessibility.

Projects
  • TriforceTony started a sandbox to document meeting minutes.
  • Htwretched has been collecting model shots for Characters in The Wind Waker.
  • PhantomCaleb has been working on overhauling Schedules for Majora's Mask characters.
  • TriforceTony created a sandbox for an alternate method of displaying Materials using a Gallery and creating a pseudo-tag system for all applicable category types of Material (e.g., Hearty Durians are Fruits, Fuel, and Ingredients). An example can be seen below.
    • PhantomCaleb suggested that it is not immediately apparent that the Materials are sorted in the Hyrule Compendium order.
    • PhantomCaleb also suggested that it may be best to move a full list of Materials to Materials in Breath of the Wild.
Planning for the future

Like the week before, the meeting was guided by the question of what we hope to achieve for the year.

  • CamelChip requested that the Term guidelines be clarified further, and previously wrote a sandbox for this. These in particular were requested:
Order of validity
Inherited terms
  • TriforceTony would like to collect terms from all possible guides in order to have a full list of available terms.
  • CamelChip would like to finish BotW coverage, namely covering Weather and Climate mechanics.
    • Horse spawning mechanics are missing, but covered in the Piggyback guide.
    • Area delineation information is incomplete, both for regions and climates (the latter are tied to the save menu)
    • Weather rates and probabilities for each Climate
    • Other Climate data like dynamically-spawning Creatures
    • Temperature data
  • PhantomCaleb would like to establish site analytics to allow all staff to view them
  • PhantomCaleb would like for us to break even on costs to maintain the site
  • TriforceTony would like to increase our focus on accessibility. This was provided as an example to follow.

Planning for the future

The meeting was guided by the question of what we hope to achieve for the year. This discussion will continue in the next meeting.

Projects
Tears of the Kingdom coverage
  • Tears of the Kingdom's launch date is set for May 12th of this year.
  • VexIsRed plans to have sprites ready for Tears of the Kingdom within a month of the game's release. To support this, we plan to help identify any sprites as well as upload placeholder sprites taken from screenshots until transparent ones can replace them.
  • Htwretched plans to review the existing listing pages for other games to document any inconsistencies and standardize them so that they are structurally consistent in anticipation of Tears of the Kingdom's release.
  • evanb plans to update Recurring Music in The Legend of Zelda Series.
Featured Articles and Featured Images
  • TriforceTony plans to reinstate the Featured Article/Image system by the start of February under new conditions and criteria, based on a model they suggested in a 2022 meeting. They also plan to have these conditions prepared in a sandbox to review during the next meeting.
Documenting technical mechanics
  • VexIsRed suggested that we should have a stronger focus on hidden mechanics such as Breath of the Wild's experience system going forward.
Other suggestions
  • evanb would like to see infographics of the evolution of music in The Legend of Zelda series.
  • evanb would like to categorize Breath of the Wild locations based on the origin of their names, such as Breath of the Wild locations that have name origins in Phantom Hourglass.
    • TriforceTony suggested that this could be difficult on account of different language canons using different name sources, such as Tabantha first originating in English in Breath of the Wild but ultimately coming from the Japanese name for the Castor Wilds. Hebra also originates from Japanese but is used more frequently in localizations prior to Breath of the Wild. Baro#8858 pointed out that Hebra's Hill from Four Swords Adventures uses its namesake in English. "Hebra" is likely used in other localizations prior this, however.
    • evanb#4179 suggested the alternative of having a listing article instead, such as List of locations in Breath of the Wild by namesake or Toponym Namesakes in Breath of the Wild.
