According to legend, Hyrule Kingdom was founded on the Great Plateau.[9] Since then, the Kingdom expanded to encompass eight Regions: Akkala, Central Hyrule, Eldin, Faron, Gerudo, Hebra, Lanayru, and Necluda.
Over time, Hyrule Kingdom was continuously plagued by Calamity Ganon.[10] Whenever he returned, two heroes, a warrior and a princess descended from Hylia, would seal him away.[11] Due to the amount of time that would pass between Calamity Ganon's appearances, conflicts with him would fade into myth, though stories would continue to be passed down.[12]
During the Era of Prosperity, Hyrule Kingdom flourished due to the Sheikah's advanced Technology.[13] In preparation for Calamity Ganon's eventual return, the Hyruleans created the Divine Beasts and an army of Guardians to assist the warrior and princess. As a result, Ganon was sealed away for another 10,000 years.[14] In the aftermath, the King of Hyrule and the Royal Family came to fear the Sheikah's Technology, so they ordered its banishment.[15][16] Some of the Sheikah willingly parted with their Technology and settled in Kakariko Village.[17] Another group grew resentful and swore loyalty to Calamity Ganon, forming the Yiga.[17][15]
In the millennia since then, Hyrule Kingdom has been at peace.[18] One century before the events of Breath of the Wild, King Rhoam and the Queen of Hyrule ruled the Kingdom together. During this time, a Fortune-Teller predicted that Calamity Ganon would return.[18] Following the Fortune-Teller's prophecy, King Rhoam ordered large-scale excavations, which uncovered the Divine Beasts and Guardians.[19][20] Before the Queen could teach their daughter Zelda how to use her sealing powers, she unexpectedly passed away.[21] Although Zelda struggled to awaken her powers as the Great Calamity drew closer, she thrived in researching Ancient Technology.[22] Eventually, four Champions were appointed to the Divine Beasts: Mipha piloted Divine Beast Vah Ruta, Daruk piloted Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Revali piloted Divine Beast Vah Medoh, and Urbosa piloted Divine Beast Vah Naboris.[23] Link, the chosen warrior who wielded the Master Sword, was also appointed as Zelda's personal knight.[24]
When the Great Calamity struck, Calamity Ganon used his Malice to take control of the Ancient Technology, including the Divine Beasts.[25] Hyrule Castle and most Hyrulean settlements were razed by Guardians.[26] Since the destruction of its government, Hyrule Kingdom has ceased to exist.[27][28]

Zora served the King of Hyrule by providing his Hylian water inspectors with Zora Tunics so they could breathe underwater while cleaning the bed of Zora's River.[29]
In the Era of the Wilds, Hyrule Kingdom reconnected with the Sheikah to enlist their help with preventing the return of Calamity Ganon. They primarily provided martial support and acted as personal guards, but also assisted with the excavation of the Divine Beasts.[30] Impa was enlisted as a royal advisor,[31] while Purah and Robbie were tasked with studying Ancient Technology.
