This is off-topic and was last posted on eons ago but it must be said: ZeldaGirl96 is wrong. Ocarina buying has tons of factors and there's more that goes into a purchase than one thinks. One can get good six holes for 20 dollars, basically, but it depends on what you want. In short the best reference in general is theocarinanetwork.com

Songbird

A Link to the Past

Why isn't the "Flute" from ALTTP here? It's clearly an ocarina, as you can easily tell from its sprite and Japanese name. Drillzer (talk) 02:29, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Zelda Wiki prioritizes the American English Canon over the Japanese Canon so the ALttP item uses the name it was given in the American English release, regardless of its name in Japanese. That being said, the discrepancy between Japanese and English should probably be noted in Trivia. --Link Lab 17:34, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

That page states that "Japanese versions of the Zelda games are a higher form of canon than the English localizations", and the extent of the "canonity" of the English translations is limited to the titles and names. I'm not debating what we should call the ALTTP item, I'm saying that it's canonically an ocarina since that's what it was called in the Japanese version, and it's also what the sprite shows in all versions, so it should be included in this article. What? Where does it say that? Let me quote that page: "The Japanese versions of the Zelda games are a higher form of canon than the English localizations, as they are the originals. However, since Zelda Wiki is an English wiki based in the United States, we will use the commonly placed agreement that the English titles take precedence."

If there's any confusion, "titles" in this instance refers to the games, not as a synonym for terminology. Also see the first and third bullet in that section. TriforceTony (talk) 23:48, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Oh, my bad. In that case, can we change that word to "games" to make it fully clear?
Regardless, the ocarina sprite is still used in all versions, so I don't think it should ignored. In the English version, it's a Flute in name, and an Ocarina in appearance. Drillzer (talk) 00:05, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Our documentation for our policies and guidelines is outdated so it's in the process of being rewritten from scratch. The appropriate pages will be updated when that's finished.
As I have effectively said here, we don't document by appearances, but rather by official names. Ocarinas are flutes, as well, simply a specific type. It can be noted in Trivia, but that's basically the extent of it. TriforceTony (talk) 00:15, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
