{{Plural|Series|Spiked Beetle}} are turtle-like creatures with pointed spikes on their shells. Their appearance, as well as their Japanese name {{Exp|トゲゾー|Togezō}}, are based on the {{Smw|Spiny}} enemies from the ''{{Smw|Mario (series)|Mario}}'' series. They normally crawl around rooms, charging towards {{Term|Series|Link|link}} and attempting to crash into him with their spiked shells. These shells block most attacks; however, if a {{Term|Series|Spiked Beetle}} is flipped over, its vulnerable underbelly is exposed. Their charges can be defended against with the {{Term|Series|Shield|link}}, which also flips them over;<ref>{{Cite|Good defense is the best offense against spikes.|Owl Statue|OoS}}</ref> however, a number of other items can also be used to flip them over, such as the {{Term|Series|Cane of Pacci|link}} and the {{Term|Series|Shovel|link}}.

{{Plural|LANS|Spiked Beetle}} in {{LA}} inhabit {{Plural|LANS|Dungeon|link}}; they are found in {{Term|LANS|Tail Cave|link}}, {{Term|LANS|Bottle Grotto|link}}, and {{Term|LANS|Angler's Tunnel|link}}. They slowly crawl about the room, immediately dashing towards {{Term|LANS|Link|link}} in a straight line to attack when they spot him. When they are upright, they are completely invulnerable to all attacks. Only by blocking their attack with the {{Term|LANS|Shield|link}} can they be flipped over, exposing their weak underbellies. If left alone, they will eventually flip back onto their feet.

{{Plural|OoS|Spiked Beetle}} in {{OoS}} appear identically to their appearance in {{LA}}. When {{Term|OoS|Link|link}} comes into their view, they will charge at him in a straight line. They can be flipped over with the {{Term|OoS|Shield|link}} as before; however, they can also be flipped over with the {{Term|OoS|Shovel|link}}. {{Term|OoS|Link}} can also use or shoot {{Plural|OoS|Gale Seed|link}} at them, warping them out of the room. They can be flipped over with the {{Term|OoA|Shield|link}} as before; however, they can also be flipped over with the {{Term|OoA|Shovel|link}}. {{Term|OoA|Link}} can also use or shoot {{Plural|OoA|Gale Seed|link}} at them, warping them out of the room. They are found in the {{Term|OoA|Wing Dungeon|link}} and the {{Term|OoA|Hero's Cave|link}}.

{{Plural|FS|Spiked Beetle}} in {{FS}} behave similarly to their previous incarnations, though they withdraw into their shells and spin at the {{Plural|FS|Link|link}} while homing in on them rather than charging in straight lines. The {{Term|FS|Shield|link}} remains the only item that can flip them over, and is typically provided near areas where {{Plural|FS|Spiked Beetle}} can be found. They appear slightly more reminiscent of Spinies from the ''Mario'' series, being shelled reptilian creatures. They are found in the {{Term|FS|Chambers of Insight|link}}, the {{Term|FS|Sea of Trees|link}}, {{Term|FS|Death Mountain (Stage)|link}}, and {{Term|FS|Vaati's Palace|link}}, as well as the {{Term|FS|Realm of Memories|link}} and the {{Term|FS|Hero's Trial|link}}.

{{Plural|TMC|Spiked Beetle}} in {{TMC}} appear identically to their appearance in {{FS}}. They will withdraw into their shells and hurl themselves at {{Term|TMC|Link|link}} in a spinning attack. While the {{Term|TMC|Shield|link}} can still be used to block and flip them over, the {{Term|TMC|Cane of Pacci|link}} can also be used to turn them onto their backs. The explosions of well-placed {{Plural|TMC|Bomb|link}} can be used to flip them over, as well. They appear in the {{Term|TMC|Cave of Flames|link}} and the {{Term|TMC|Palace of Winds|link}}.

A Spiked Beetle makes an appearance in the {{LA|Cagiva}}, alongside a [[Stalfos]] and a [[Shrouded Stalfos]] fighting Link as soon as he entered the [[Tail Cave]].

* {{Plural|Series|Beetle (Enemy)|link}} and {{Plural|Series|Spiny Beetle|link}} were confused with {{Plural|Series|Spiked Beetle}} in the enemy roster of the Nintendo Player's Guide for {{LA|-}}, both being given the same method of defeat (by flipping them over) despite not having any relation to this enemy.

The name {{Term|Series|Spiked Beetle}} refers to the enemy's spiny shell. The name may be derived from {{Smw|Buzzy Beetle}}s, another turtle-like enemy in the ''Mario'' series that are similar to Spinies, but without spiked shells. Their Japanese name, "Togezō", comes from the word {{Exp|棘|toge}}, meaning thorn.
