{{Stub|TotK}}
Following the defeat of {{Term|TotK|Dark Beast Ganon|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} and {{Term|TotK|Zelda|link}} move into {{Term|TotK|Link's House|link}} in {{Term|TotK|Hateno Village|link}}. When {{Term|TotK|Gloom|link}} begins to seep out from underneath {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Purah|link}} tasks the duo with investigating its source. As they travel {{Term|TotK|Beneath Hyrule Castle|link}}, {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} takes note of the architecture and writing, concluding it to be {{Term|TotK|Zonai|link}} in origin. {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} also finds a mural and explains to {{Term|TotK|Link}} that it likely depicts the events of the {{Term|TotK|Imprisoning War|link}}, an event that occurred around the time of {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Kingdom|link}}'s founding that shaped the course of history. When they reach the depths of the tunnels {{Term|TotK|Beneath Hyrule Castle}}, they stumble upon a mummified body with a {{Term|TotK|Right Arm|link}} gripping its chest. The hand lets go of its grip and drops its {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone|link}} when {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} draws near. After {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} picks up the {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone}}, the mummified body awakens and spews {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} toward {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}.
{{Term|TotK|Link}} is set to appear in {{TotK}}. He wears a modified {{Term|TotK|Champion's Tunic|link}}, and accompanies {{Term|TotK|Princess Zelda|link}} underground. He is also seen traversing floating islands in the sky in a new outfit.

{{Term|TotK|Link}} deflects the attack, but unwittingly splits the tendril of {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} into two which then warp around the {{Term|TotK|Master Sword|link}} and attack {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s arm directly. This imbues the corruption of {{Term|TotK|Darkness|link}} into {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s arm and torso, necrotizing part of his body in the process. While {{Term|TotK|Link}} is weakened by the {{Term|TotK|Gloom}}, it also infests the {{Term|TotK|Master Sword}}, causing it to become brittle. The {{Term|TotK|Master Sword}} ultimately breaks when {{Term|TotK|Link}} attempts to deflect another attack from the {{Term|TotK|Gloom}}, sending a flying shard outward that cuts the mummy's cheek.

Baffled by the fragility of the {{Term|TotK|Master Sword}}, the mummy speaks to the duo and warns them that such a blade cannot protect them from him.<ref>{{Cite|Was that the sword that seals the darkness? A blade that shatters so easily against my power cannot save you from me.|Ganondorf|TotK}}</ref> He addresses the both of them by name and scoffs at the idea that someone named {{Term|TotK|Rauru|link}} would place his faith in them.<ref>{{Cite|Zelda... You, who carries that fragile sword...are Link. Rauru placed his faith in you...and that was all you could do?|Ganondorf|TotK}}</ref> He then releases a strong burst of {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} upward, tearing {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle}} from the ground around it and sending it into the {{Term|TotK|Sky|link}}. This causes the ground beneath all of them to collapse, sending the three into a freefall. While {{Term|TotK|Link}} attempts to grab {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} midair, the {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone}} she picked up begins to glow and she disappears. {{Term|TotK|Link}} is then caught by the {{Term|TotK|Right Arm}}, which teleports him away.

{{Term|TotK|Link}} awakens in the {{Term|TotK|Room of Awakening|link}}, having lost his {{Term|TotK|Armor|link}} and his entire right arm, which was replaced with that of a {{Term|TotK|Zonai}}'s. Shortly after he regains consciousness, {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s new arm begins to glow and he hears a disembodied voice speaking to him. This voice explains that {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} told him much about her {{Term|TotK|Knight of Hyrule|link|display=Knight}} and that he had no choice but to replace {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s arm to stop the spread of corruption and save his life. Nearby, {{Term|TotK|Link}} finds the {{Term|TotK|Decayed Master Sword|link}}, which is too heavily damaged to be used as an effective {{Term|TotK|Weapon|link}}. Upon leaving the cave containing the {{Term|TotK|Room of Awakening}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} finds himself on the {{Term|TotK|Great Sky Island|link}}, a landmass in the {{Term|TotK|Sky}} that suddenly appeared over {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Field|link}}. Atop the {{Term|TotK|Sky Island}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} encounters a {{Term|TotK|Steward Construct|link}} who explains that they are in the {{Term|TotK|Garden of Time|link}}, an area connected to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time|link}}. At {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}'s request, the {{Term|TotK|Steward Construct}} gives {{Term|TotK|Link}} the {{Term|TotK|Purah Pad|link}} that she was carrying, and explains that {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}'s last known position was inside the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}}.

When {{Term|TotK|Link}} attempts to open the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}}, he is barred from entry by a {{Term|TotK|Magic|link|display=Magical}} {{Term|TotK|Barrier|link}}. The disembodied voice appears to {{Term|TotK|Link}}, revealing himself as a {{Term|TotK|Spirit|link}}. He explains that his name is {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} and that {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s new {{Term|TotK|Right Arm}} came from him. Though his {{Term|TotK|Right Arm}} should allow {{Term|TotK|Link}} to open the door to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}}, the corruption from the {{Term|TotK|Gloom}} has infected {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s body with {{Term|TotK|Darkness}}. To fix this, {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} suggests that {{Term|TotK|Link}} enter the {{Plural|TotK|Shrine of Light|link}} found on the {{Term|TotK|Great Sky Island}} to receive {{Plural|TotK|Light of Blessing|link}} that can purge the {{Term|TotK|Darkness}} from his body. Inside each of the three {{Plural|TotK|Shrine of Light}} that {{Term|TotK|Link}} can enter, {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} appears to him and bestows a new ability, which can be controlled through his {{Term|TotK|Right Arm}}.

Upon returning to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}} with three {{Plural|TotK|Light of Blessing}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} is able to enter the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time|display=Temple}} and find the spectral image of {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}'s {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone}}. By touching the {{Term|TotK|Secret Stone|display=Stone}}, {{Term|TotK|Link}} is able to receive a vision of {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}, who extends her hand to {{Term|TotK|Link}}, granting him a fourth ability: {{Term|TotK|Recall|link}}. {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}'s likeness then disappears, returning {{Term|TotK|Link}} to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}} where {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} speaks to him again. {{Term|TotK|Rauru}} directs {{Term|TotK|Link}} to visit the final {{Term|TotK|Shrine of Light}} on the {{Term|TotK|Great Sky Island}}, {{Term|TotK|Nachoyah Shrine|link}}, in order to receive another {{Term|TotK|Light of Blessing}} to offer to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}}'s {{Term|TotK|Goddess Statue|link}}. In doing so, {{Term|TotK|Link}} is able to purge more of the {{Term|TotK|Darkness}} infesting his body and regain some of his vitality, which is needed to open the rear doors to the {{Term|TotK|Temple of Time}}. Beyond these doors is an altar where a glowing ball of {{Term|TotK|Light}} sits, waiting for {{Term|TotK|Link}} to put the {{Term|TotK|Decayed Master Sword}} into it to send it back in time to {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}.

After {{Term|TotK|Link}} entrusts the {{Term|TotK|Decayed Master Sword}} to {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}, a {{Term|TotK|Light Dragon|link}} bursts through the {{Term|TotK|Cloud Barrier|link}} between the {{Term|TotK|Sky}} and the {{Term|TotK|Surface|link}}, allowing {{Term|TotK|Link}} to {{Term|TotK|Skydive|link}} back down to the world below and continue his search for {{Term|TotK|Zelda}} at {{Term|TotK|Lookout Landing|link}}. There, he meets {{Term|TotK|Purah}}, who tasks him with reporting in to {{Term|TotK|Hoz|link}}, who is leading the search and rescue effort for {{Term|TotK|Link}} and {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}. Upon doing so, {{Term|TotK|Hoz}}'s crew spot {{Term|TotK|Princess Zelda}} atop the floating {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle}}. When she is spotted, she merely floats skyward, disappearing in a ball of {{Term|TotK|Light}}. {{Term|TotK|Hoz}} requests for {{Term|TotK|Link}} to report this back to {{Term|TotK|Purah}}. {{Term|TotK|Purah}} collects {{Term|TotK|Link}}'s report and informs him that strange incidents have begun to affect the land of {{Term|TotK|Hyrule|link}} since the {{Term|TotK|Hyrule Castle|display=Castle}} rose into the air, and she suspects that they may be related to {{Term|TotK|Zelda}}'s disappearance. After using {{Term|TotK|Link}} and the {{Term|TotK|Purah Pad}} in his possession to activate the {{Plural|TotK|Skyview Tower|link}}, she directs him toward the {{Term|TotK|Hebra|link}} {{Term|TotK|Region|link}}, where a strange {{Term|TotK|Blizzard|link}} plagues the {{Plural|TotK|Sky}}.
