Sages

Great! Anyhow about e-mail, its a long story but, we have two computers, one had e-mail the other didn't, the one that had e-mail...... got struck by lightning, so I'm typing on the one that does not. Um, about the article on Sages, I would like to find more info, how to explain......Like in a Link to the Past, we have the seven wise men, well in Oot we have the human sages, and if not to make someones head spin more, in TP we have the etheral sages. Okey how did nintendo end up there? Ya know what I'm sayin, so I am looking for something like; did the Sage of Water really die, 'Are there decendents of the sages, Are the sages immortal, did the original wise men die. I think if I look on some small Zelda sites, I might find something worthwhile. But I figured between the two of us, we might be able to make the article more informatory. P.S. I found a good site on the sages, it's called "ZeldaLegends", go to: storyline-storyline articles-articles11 decendents of the sages revisited. or you could type up "zeldalegends decendents of the sages". Either one should work, just ttell me what you think of it.The Sage of Cosmos 23:48, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry that site wasn't as useful as I thought it would be. I checked out the sage article and it really doesn't need much work, someone added all sorts of photos, and articles to it. But, we can still add a few things. do you mind working with theory? The Sage of Cosmos 14:32, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I guess we could mess around with the theory. But we should talk it through first before we add anything to the articles.User:Mjr162006/sig 14:54, September 20, 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm working on a little research and such right now and will post what I think on the Sage talk article. Sorry about the long response time. :P User:Ando/sig 15:12, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Thats all right. Same for me.The Sage of Cosmos 19:21, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ando, I posted my research on the Sage talk article, It's not much, the sages are hard to find anything on, what you do find is usually something written by some dumb a## (pardon me) who thinks they know something. Well I will probally get picked apart for posting a bunch of crap, but whatever. Thanks for helping me out:-)The Sage of Cosmos 22:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Ando, I just wanted to let you know that I'm gonna be outta town for about 3 days, that and my bratty nieces are visiting for the weekend, I'm thrilled to say the least :/ So hopefully I'll be back in a 3 days, if not, then my nieces drove me to insanity and I'm in a psych ward........somewhere.The Sage of Cosmos 20:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC) And somehow I think I got the sages topic on this page deleted, sorry, I find a way to fix that. The Sage of Cosmos 21:03, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No probolo. ;) Anyway, I'll try to have some kind of response on the Sages talk page by the time you get back. Yup yup. :D User:Ando/sig 21:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm back from the nut house! Just kidding, I really went on a school trip. But being on a bus, with a bunch of A-holes really made me wish I was graduated :0 Anyway, I just seen what you put on the the sage talk page. I agree 100%. I'm glad we seen eye to eye. You're right about the adult/child timeline. I know alot of people think that ALttP precedes OoT. I tend to believe that, but something just doesn't quite right with it, maybe I'm just crazy. The Sage of Cosmos 22:50, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, I'm finally on the internet, I don't have school today, so I guess I can sit down. I just wanted to ask you a question. It's really just curiosity, but I was wondering what time zone you live in. I just always wonder what time it is to the other person who's typing back to me. If answering that question makes you uncomfortable, then by all means, don't answer it ;)-The Sage of Cosmos 19:43, 5 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, no problem. I'm in Central Standard Time, so the time displayed on the screen minus 5 hours. User:Ando/sig 02:53, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm in Eastern Time, no I don't live on the coast.....but I wish I did. Guess we're quite a distance. I always find that interesting, to know what time it is for the other person ;)The Sage of Cosmos 04:26, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry about pulling the disappearing act on ya. Yeah, computer issues and lack of time are to blame. Eventually I hope to post the sage article, thanks for your help with that. Well, I see there was a rather epic battle at the bottom of the page, a battle of wits and verbal disagreements, glad I missed it :/ Anyhow, I hope you and Matt are finished with your little .......tirade. lol! Anyway (God do I overuse that word) Do you wanna be friends? I know that came outta left field, but just wondering ;)The Sage of Cosmos 16:41, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ha, I understand completely. I've done my fair share of disappearing myself. Yeah, Matt and I seem to have... finished, I guess? (Although, if you'd like to vote on this little gem, that would be much appreciated. Voting's still open for it.)
Friends? Absolutely. You can never have enough of them, and I believe you'd make a great one. :D User:Ando/sig 16:48, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Ando, I think you'd make a great friend too :)I seen the vote, and I seen what you and Matt were fighting about. Yup! I voted against it. This new "rule"....we don't need it ;)The Sage of Cosmos 13:22, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Did the voting for the "No Echo the first voter" possible rule ( I hope you know what I mean, the part 1) did it close already, I wanted edit something I wrote and I can't find it, only the part 2The Sage of Cosmos 18:20, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, yeah, Matt said that it was pointless to keep it up anymore so we took it down and counted it as "failed". Policy two is still up though, yeah. What exactly did you want to do? User:Ando/sig 18:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I thought I put my opposition in the support section by mistake, It doesn't matter now though :) I make really stupid mistakes when I type. Once on Fanfiction, I gave someone a compliment on their story (at least I thought I did) I thought I wrote "Your characters are interesting" somehow I wrote "Your characters are NOT interesting". Let's just say they sent me a very angry reply. And I have a really weird question to ask you, are you in school? I just wondered, more or less what I'm asking is if you're in collegeThe Sage of Cosmos 23:46, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nah, you got it in the oppose section. No problem. :P Also, that sounds like a pretty nasty mistake. D: Doesn't sound fun.
College? Not yet. I'm taking the year off right now and I plan on going to college for the 2009-2010 school year. User:Ando/sig 04:40, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi, sorry you haven't seen me around. I've been on, just look at some a few things and that's it. We have dial up and I swear that every time I log on, an alarm goes off in someones head and they pick up the phone and knock me off :/ I was just wondering if my past posts on the sages are annoying you, they take up alot of room on your page and they're pretty much useless, you want me delete them? The Sage of Cosmos 18:05, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Heh, don't worry, I know what you mean with the dial-up situation. D: Dial-up is fun.
Anyway, annoying me? Hardly. I mean, you're working to attempt to improve the Wiki as opposed to all thems vandalmans. Nothing annoying about that. :) Now we just have to figure out how to implement what we've gained from our discussion into the actual article itself. >_> User:Ando/sig 18:23, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Are we online at the same time? pretty much what I was going to say bye bye was my thick text block at the top of your talk page, there is nothing important in there anyway, unless you wanna keep it?The Sage of Cosmos 19:52, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Ando is always online. Always.
If you wanna get rid of it, I'm not gonna try to stop you or anything. You don't just have to, though. :P Do what you will with it, I don't mind. User:Ando/sig 19:59, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Well maybe I'll leave it on and that way in a few years after we're all older and everything, we'll look back on it laugh? I won't get rid of anything, I'm one of those people that keep old pennys from years that were memorable..or not so memorable. But if it's not bothering you then alright. Change of subject, I live in the northern part of ET, we're going to get snow. Great. We still have leaves on the trees. A few years ago we had a snow when the leaves were still on, we had trees down, power out (for about a week) it was nice way to kick off the winter :P I probally freaked you out now, you're probally like "Freaky kid" Okey I'll stop now ;)The Sage of Cosmos 20:22, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. Historical value, you know? By the way, I'll be archiving this discussion (along with, well, the rest of the page) on November 1st, so... Yep. User:Ando/sig 20:48, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
I wish we'd get snow. :(

Well, I guess we're...good to go ;) P.S. Are those sayings stupid or what, I still like'em though. Good to go, lock and load, I don't know but I've been told. I think I'm going insane ;D The Sage of Cosmos 20:59, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I tried out sig. thing on my page, I just typed "hi" pretty much just to see what it would do. Did I mess something up? Oh wait! Don't tell me that there is "Hi" at the bottom of the temp. I bet that's what It is. Sorry. The Sage of Cosmos 14:56, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Heh, well, there was. Don't worry, I undid anything that could have damaged anything. No problem, really. Just make sure to use the sandbox when you'd like to experiment. It's what I do! :P User:Ando/sig 17:49, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Everyone messes up a few times.User:Mjr162006/sig 18:00, October 26, 2008 (UTC)
Okey, I'll remember that. Yeah I thought, I'll try it out on my talk page, I didn't know I was going to screw up the template. I'm a real @$$ sometimes. The Sage of Cosmos 18:07, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Matt, who are you talking to?
The first part, you. The hidden second part, to Ando. :P User:Mjr162006/sig 18:11, October 26, 2008 (UTC)

No, it's okay man, really. I mean you didn't know. Nothing to beat yourself up about. User:Ando/sig 18:17, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah! Edit conflicts! They are becoming far too rare these days.User:Mjr162006/sig 18:21, October 26, 2008 (UTC)
Wow, we're all on at the same time. It's 2:25 P.M. here, what time is it where you guys are?The Sage of Cosmos 18:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I know weird question.
Both Ando and I are in the same time zone. It's 1:32 PM here right now.User:Mjr162006/sig 18:32, October 26, 2008 (UTC)
That's cool. I always wonder if talking to someone in CA, or Alaska. The Sage of Cosmos 18:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)-->Wow hidden text is cool, I learned something :)Reply[reply]
And I can still see it......WOW.The Sage of Cosmos 18:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe not. You guys are probally thinking "She's stupid and crazy"The Sage of Cosmos 18:49, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You just needed a ! in the first part. No one expects you to automatically know things. No we were not thinking that. First off, we didn't know your gender. Second, everyone has to learn things for a first time.User:Mjr162006/sig 18:58, October 26, 2008 (UTC)
That's my fault, I didn't have any user boxes that said this user is female, and my penname sure didn't say much. That's my mistake. The Sage of Cosmos 19:06, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ando, you still on here? The Sage of Cosmos 19:23, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Looks like the rush hour died. So I'm talking to myself. Uh....see ya later? The Sage of Cosmos 19:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ehh... He does that a lot. It's normal. Nothing to worry about.User:Mjr162006/sig 19:41, October 26, 2008 (UTC)

Okey. Since your still on here, what do vandals do? I keep hearing about them, but do they like screw up your page or something? The Sage of Cosmos 19:46, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They mess things up. Some put nonsense into pages. Others blank pages, replace pages with junk, move pages to nonsense names, remove information from an article, attack users by spamming their user pages, add spam links to other sites, etc. We still can't figure out what the vandals think they get out it. Basically, they are idiots seeking attention or fame. Stuff like that.User:Mjr162006/sig 19:54, October 26, 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I wasn't sure. Uh.....I have to get off line, someone has to use the phone (curse dial-up). So catch you guys later. The Sage of Cosmos 20:02, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ando, where did you go?

Okey, I got my signature fixed. The Sage of Cosmos (Talk) 22:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Er, sort of. :P How exactly did you type it in the Nickname box? From what I can tell, you'd want something like this: [[User:The Sage of Cosmos|The Sage of Cosmos]] ([[User talk:The Sage of Cosmos|Talk]]), and make sure to leave the "raw signature" box checked or else it won't work - checking that box allows you to modify your signature just about however you please, but you have to create the links yourself. This signature has two separate links - one for your user page, and one for your talk. User:Ando/sig 23:25, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Heh heh, uh...so I type up a link in the sig. box, Raw Signature box checked, and it should work? Do you use another method? The Sage of Cosmos 17:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, Ando has flat-out refused to use the nickname box, for reasons unknown. He does it manually. But all you have to do is put the code in the nickname box, make sure "raw signatures" is checked, and then click save. That should be it.User:Mjr162006/sig 17:45, October 27, 2008 (UTC)

ThanksThe Sage of Cosmos 17:50, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Matt, I think you may have confused the poor girl. ;P
If you have the drive to make a nice, compact signature, check out this tutorial that Matt wrote. If you follow the directions exactly, you should have it working like you want. (Plus, if you ever change your signature, the change will be seen across the entire site!) User:Ando/sig 17:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

You know what? You guys are so helpful. I'm sorry I've wasted your time. Uh...Ando, you're talking about drive, I'm on an MSN tv. It's on your tv, all it has is internet, It doesn't even have a slot to put a cd in. I can't even get on the wiki chatroom because it doesn't have abode. My computer that I download on and everything..it died. So I'm suck with this wonderful, dial-up mess. My point is maybe I can't do it because of this computer{{SUBST::User:The Sage of Cosmos/sig}} 18:13, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Er, no, I meant "drive" as in "will", as is "you have the will to do something". Not a literal physical item. :P User:Ando/sig 19:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Wow! I do believe I've just made a bigger @$$ out of myself, If that were even possible. Thanks for all your help though. I've got my sig. back to normal, so I'm just gonna leave it :) I'm pretty stupid with a computer. I can download, upload, add links, some basic stuff other than that, it's sort of like Greek...or Algebra II ;)The Sage of Cosmos 21:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, and if you don't see me around, were getting snow and/or freezing rain. So my power will be out.The Sage of Cosmos 22:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, actually we didn't get snow. Instead we got a lot of...rain. Sorry about sounding really crazy on my last edits. I guess Me+Caffeine+Keyboard is not a good idea :/ Along with the coffee high comes (at least for me) some incoherences, and randomness, not to mention hyper..ness. I really don't even know if I knew what I was typing :P Sorry :/The Sage of Cosmos 14:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

just for the record

i never meant to be offenceive and im sorry for some of the more um... "explosive" comments on vairious pages. im just pretty used to admins on bulba treating me like dirt all the time. i know. harsh world.Dragonstetraforce 00:26, 28 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks. I understand; jerks can very easily ruin one's perception of other people. It happens all the time. But yeah, I'll definitely try not to be one of those crazy admins -- and it's cool, man. I forgive you. :) User:Ando/sig 01:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Issues

I'm tired of making unused images already. I'll mark them when the become unused. For now though, Why don't you just go over to Special:UnusedImages and take a few chunks out it here and there over the next couple weeks. By the way, we need to change the title of that page to "Used Images". Right now it is "Usused files". It is from the upgrade I guess. We can change the name through the system messages page MediaWiki:Unusedimages. That whit background is getting annoying. It doesn't not take that long to fix. Jason's schedule cannot be that much more busy than mine. We're both in college. It is just changing the default colors to match the rest of the site. It is like this because Jason had to replace all the those php and css files to the new versions. He had to recreate all the changes that he made to the old ones and just missed a few color settings. It's understandable. But this issue makes patrolling (yeah I can't mark them as patrolled, but I still patrol) edits really hard. It is more than an annoyance. He'll be back to update the counter on the main page soon anyway so let's make sure to catch him.User:Mjr162006/sig 23:17, October 2, 2008 (UTC)

Well, I can't see a need to change the name of that particular section. If in the future we begin uploading, say, sound files or something and some become unused, they'd go to the "unused files" page as well. It's not like the name is incorrect as it is, either: pictures are still files. I'll definitely start going through those and deleting some. I used to go through them before just catching, erm, inappropriate content. But I guess I should start just mass-deleting, too. No point in having them there.
As for the colors, uh, I'm not sure why you're telling me this. It's not like you haven't before, and rest assured it HAS been mentioned to him by several people, on and off the staff boards. I honestly don't know why it hasn't been done. Hasn't bothered me too terribly much, but I wouldn't complain if it were fixed either. I'll post a little note on his talk page so he should see it next time he updates the counter. User:Ando/sig 00:07, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
yeah, i totally patrolled edits myself pre-sysop status as well. :P i didn't know that the sysops actually had "mark as patrolled" buttons and went through them all already!

Featured

So you show up now. It has been a few days. I swear you have some sort of radar in your brain. It says "Go back now!".
I know I was well within the rules now. I did not make up my own rule. It was basic common sense. Those votes are invalid. For the last time it is a fact, not an opinion. I have proven it. So try thinking first. Is everyone against me? Has the world gone mad? All the voters have lost their sense. Adam's been too busy. You're constantly repelling everything I do. I know you don't like change. Well the truth is that things do change. No matter how hard you try it'll still change. So please stop this nonsense and help me.User:Mjr162006/sig 22:26, October 12, 2008 (UTC)

How were those votes invalid. Where is that rule that allows those votes to be invalid? I'm sorry but when an image has lost, you must let it go.--Link hero of light 23:02, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yep, any time there's a crazy edit, my arms tingle and I'm like "CRAP CRAP CRAP NOOOOOOOO" and I run to a computer. (jk i was actually unexpectedly at a friend's house for the weekend; our timing was just rather impeccable)
I like how you claim you've brought facts and proof and stuff and yet I've seen none. All we've got is you saying "well, science says THIS", but how do you explain the three unrelated people who all have the SAME PROBLEM? Remember that whole logo issue, where I can see the logo just fine but you and apparently everyone else you know can't? Yeah, well, science would dictate that a simple image should be able to be see across all browsers and computers, right? And yet we don't see the same thing. Clearly, not everyone is you, and therefore are not having the same problems.
Also, I'm not just stubbornly against you or change in and of itself. If I were against change, I would have been against the addition of opposition votes, wouldn't I? If I were against you, I'd have been against your new Featured Content rotation template, wouldn't I? And yet I accepted and embraced these changes because I feel that they're good changes for the Wiki. However, these new suggested policies... I can't say I feel the same about those. Hence, I oppose them heavily as, regardless of whether they're truly "good changes" or whatever, in my mind they're not good, and I'd rather not see the Wiki take the path that they show.
Again, you decided that it was within YOUR power to deem the votes invalid and make them null and void, and yet at NO point was that power ever given to you. If there was a particular dictated rule on the page that said "any votes that do such and such will be made invalid", then yes, I'd be totally cool with it, but there's NOT. A method of doing this was NOT discussed with any staff, and you told me yourself that there'd have to be a consensus between several members to discount a vote, and yet all I see is that you seem to have reached a consensus within your own head. The congress in your head =/= Zelda Wiki.org community
So to address your final statement: No can do, sir. :) User:Ando/sig 01:48, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
"So try thinking first." STOP THIS OR I SWEAR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE WITH EVERY FIST ON MY BODY (sysop speak: Personal attacks are unacceptable, and if you'd been attacking anyone else, I'd likely have temp-blocked you by this point. I hate to be telling YOU this, Matt, but watch what you say -- it's getting completely out of hand now.)
Well fine then. I give up. I know when I'm defeated. But you have to know that I know full well everything that you have told me. It is just that when I see something I perceive as wrong and unjust I go at it. Here is a little story: Remember my complaining about how crappy my old PC monitor was? It was literally as piece of ****. (Just use your imagination as to what that word was. As far as seeing those image my monitor was as worse as it could possibly get. I was not just hard to see, it was solid black. Could not see a thing. But the new one was crystal clear. It was perfect. My was the worse possible scenario. And it turned out that way. Now on this laptop, I adjusted its brightness settings with the monitor controls, changing the brightness, gamma, and contrast with GammaPanel, by changing the lighting I'm viewing it in, and by adjusting the angle on the laptop monitor (oh crap! Comma nightmare!!). There was only one case where the old one looked better. That one was with average lighting and with the screen flat. It inverted the colors of the images. So I did not just declare that I'm right. I won the science fair two years in a row (only our middle school did it). I know the process. I tested over and over. It was conclusive. If this was my own image I'd be really mad. But I'm not mad. All I saw was people making a simple mistake and I tried to fix it. That's all. I never tried to personally attack anyone. That was not my aim or intention. Remember that I got the image of you waving you're... umm... well you know. So I guess were even. You thought I was attacking you. I wasn't. I thought you were being a dumb tyrant (yeah... dumb right). And that could not have been farther from the truth. You can tell I'm not a person that just sits back and let thing just happen. I have to get in there and set things right. My intentions were always for the better of the wiki.
So I think we can declare that first policy a failure. I think we can withdraw it now. There is no way that'll ever go through. Can't you see though the good behind it. My concern was for those many users that won't get their chance to vote on something because other, more regular members have boot it out. I know that our regulars know more about how the site goes. But that doesn't mean that our other members are incompetent. Yes I know no one ever said that. But it is definitely what one of them might think when they read what you said.I never think of you as an enemy. More like a debate opponent. I have to bring back the point I brought up before. Theme of Zelda? Combat! Combat against evil. Yeah we don't fight evil here... Oh wait... damn vandals. Well besides those bizarre people, everyone else here is okay. (Seriously, what the heck do vandals get out out it!?!? Some high or something. What the crap goes on in their minds?! Do they have minds? :D:P). Nothing sharpens our skills and our minds like a good debate. So let us continue with the improving the site. Bye the way. There are files to be deleted. Most are not marked. Onward!User:Mjr162006/sig 03:58, October 13, 2008 (UTC)
Hey man, I know what you mean. You see something you see as wrong and you do what you can to try to fix it. I know that everything you've recommended is with nothing but good intentions for the Wiki, and I can see what the noble goal is. The problem is just that I think that the negative effects of some of the suggestions outweigh the good. At no point did I ever think, though, that you were just trying to ruin anything or whatever. We both have the same ideal of the perfect Wiki -- it would just appear that we differ on how exactly to achieve that goal. But hey, one of your two suggestions is passing whereas the first failed, so I guess it's kind of a win in your favor, win in mine sort of deal? :P
It's two in the morning and I'm tired, so I'm not gonna try to get too amazingly philosophical here (although I can be pretty incredible), but yeah, let's work together. Like friends. ;D
Oh, yeah, deleting stuff. With the site running at the speed it is, it makes deleting stuff (or even just patrolling) a pain in the rear. It can take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to delete a single image, and that's assuming the pages don't give me that "we tried loading for the past one minute two seconds, we give up" garbage. I mean COME ON. I'll try deleting a bit here and there, but once that new server rolls in, I'll be able to work fantastically. User:Ando/sig 22:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey!

Yeah I've been busy. I don't know last year was just a real pain for me. I'm getting my priorities straight this year. You know what's really awesome? I'm an editor-in-chief for an online magazine for indie games. Yeah it just happened. It doesn't pay but I've spoken with some people in the industry. Tomorrow I'm going to be talking with one of the team members of the original de Blob game and I'm going to talk with him about his company's new Wiiware game Swords and Soldiers. It's awesome! It's not out yet though because of some employment and design issues but it's okay.--Green 03:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wh-
WHAT
That's beyond cool, dude. Let me tell you that I GREATLY envy you. Indie games are the BEST. When that magazine shows up, you let me know, man. I'll be on the lookout for your articles. :D User:Ando/sig 22:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Lol yeah I promise. If you want um to be any part of it just tell me. We are in need of some journalists and junk. Right now it's mainly me, my other staff members aren't really active.--Green 00:15, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

how do i go about becomeing an admin.

can you tell me?Dragonstetraforce 17:32, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, there really is no process, to be honest. It's basically when the staff deems that we need new admins now, they'll look over some of the frequent members and decide who would be good to add. That's how I became a sysop, anyway. If you want to increase the chances of it happening, basically just hang out here a lot, make a lot of good edits, familiarize yourself with what we've got going here, and just generally be an upstanding citizen of Zelda Wiki Land. Even then, there's no guarantee that it's gonna happen or anything, but the chances will be much, much higher than for the people who just show up every now and then to vote or something. User:Ando/sig 22:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Admin Template

I've got an idea for a new template. I want to run it by you before actually creating it. It is a simple template that will place our official 2D logo in the upper right corner of a userpage and user talk page. This the same place as on featured content pages. The template would be placed on all our admin pages. I'll dump the code into the sandbox for now. I have it right now to place the userpage in a category listing admins, but not the user talk page. But since we already have a list on the admin page we can just remove the category adding part of the code. That is, unless you want it or something. I'd rather not have the category thing, but I tried to emulate the featured content template. Tell me what you think of it.User:Mjr162006/sig 07:55, October 17, 2008 (UTC)

I actually thought about something like this before, just never actually did anything with it. I see no problem with it, so sure. Although perhaps we may need to choose a different image of some sort? While the template will be on user pages, it's STILL the same image as the Featured Content stuff, right? That could confuse some people who are just browsing user pages and see that image... Though I'm not sure what image to put there, User:Ando/sig 14:50, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
I didn't think that would be the best image too. But hey, it was very late at night and I couldn't think of another one right away. But the featured content is a 3D image, this one is 2D. We could use my Triforce Logo. I talked with Jason back in August. He said he loved my logo. He said that he'd use it as our official 2D logo if we were not so well known for the one we have now. Our current 2D is sort of our trademark our something. So could that work?User:Mjr162006/sig 17:02, October 17, 2008 (UTC)

Oh! Right, the Featured template's image is the 3D logo -- the ex-featured template's image is a broken 2D logo, so I guess I got confused. :P In that case, I guess that your idea could work, then. User:Ando/sig 18:10, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

So I made it. I added it to your page here. I would like it to be on all the archive pages too, but I let you do that. I decided not to have it add the page to a category It should help out new users understand just who they are talking to when on your page. I was thinking it might be better it you added the template to the other admin pages. It would be better that way, I think. It might not matter though. I think it turned out well. It would be nice if we can get the image to link to the admin page.User:Mjr162006/sig 04:22, October 19, 2008 (UTC)
Hey, nice. Looks good! I tried everything I could think of to get a link going on that image, but no dice. I Googled it and everything. Couldn't find out how. :/ But oh well, I guess. I'll add them to those pages, too, yeah. User:Ando/sig 05:18, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Try MediaWiki. That would be the first place to look. I remember seeing it there once.User:Mjr162006/sig 05:23, October 19, 2008 (UTC)

Found it!. It is an extension. Looks really simple to use. We can use it on the featured and disqualified ones too. The extension is: ImageMap. Simple.User:Mjr162006/sig 16:35, October 20, 2008 (UTC)

Blocking

I was just curious. What kind of block times have you seen? I've seen one second. There is a good one here. I think that one was little funny. Why not do that instead next time you do an infinite block. I think that will be more of a mental shock to vandals than a simple infinite block. It'll send a message "If you vandalize our site, we'll let you come back when you have matured, in twenty to thirty years." I think it is really clever. Practical? No, but it is a good mind game against them.
Did you know that if someone blocks you, you can unblock yourself if you are an admin too? Pretty cool. I've seen it happen when a new admin gets a little angry with another one.User:Mjr162006/sig 05:41, October 21, 2008 (UTC)

Hah, yeah, I've seen some crazy block times. I should do that, though. Just because. Although we haven't seen a vandal in years. Years.
I thought about testing the whole "can I unblock myself" thing out, but I figured it'd be better not to risk it in the event that I couldn't and Adam wasn't immediately there to unblock me. :P Would be bad. Kind of cool to know that if I ever block myself in my sleep I can undo it, though! User:Ando/sig 06:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Sig

You're still typing it in by hand???? The nickname box was fixed ages ago. Instructions on how to get it to work are on the user signatures category page. just follow the link in my sig.User:Mjr162006/sig 02:53, October 24, 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. I'm cool with typing it by hand, though. It's not like it takes me horrendous amounts of time, nor is it particularly difficult. Thanks, though. ;) User:Ando/sig 03:24, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Why not? The way I have mine, I only have to type three tildes. It is awesome! Why wouldn't you want that?User:Mjr162006/sig 03:30, October 24, 2008 (UTC)
Eh, mainly because I'm too lazy to care about it enough when it really only affects me and doesn't really ever bother me at all. :P User:Ando/sig 05:21, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
So, where is the logic here? You're too lazy to care? Yet by doing this you'll only have to type three characters each time versus twenty-five. Assuming that it takes twelve seconds to type your sig as-is and one second for mine, after 600 times (which I think is about the number we've each used them so far I think) you'll have spent two hours typing your sig while I'll have only spent ten minutes. Hmmm.... Doesn't make much sense to me. Might as well do it. Ten minutes of your time now saves you two hours later.User:Mjr162006/sig 06:03, October 24, 2008 (UTC)

Less that I worry about time wasted and more that typing out {{:User:Ando/sig}} takes less effort than setting up the nickname box details (and it's only, like, three seconds, not twelve). I appreciate the, uh, concern(?), but I'll do it if I ever feel like doing it. :P User:Ando/sig 06:16, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Three is thirty minutes. Now you have got me to the point of near explosion with curiosity! Are you saying that you think it is too hard to set up the nickname box? Okay, I lied. I really takes about three minutes to set up, not ten. Perhaps less if you are fast.User:Mjr162006/sig 06:20, October 24, 2008 (UTC)

Seablue was able to do it. MARKOL and Adam did it. Are you afraid? I must know! I cannot contain myself! Curiosity compels me! :PUser:Mjr162006/sig 06:25, October 24, 2008 (UTC)
"I'm too lazy to care about it enough when it really only affects me and doesn't really ever bother me at all." + "typing out {{:User:Ando/sig}} takes less effort than setting up the nickname box details"
The constant theme here is laziness. ;) I'm fairly technologically capable, so it's not like I'd have trouble following directions or anything. (Though in the time we discussed this I probably could have set it up for me and everyone else on the Wiki.) User:Ando/sig 11:27, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
also afraid of what i do not even know what fear has to do with this wtf
"I'm fairly technologically capable"
If that is the case, then I challenge you to do it!User:Mjr162006/sig 17:59, October 24, 2008 (UTC)

Youtube Template

So I guess the reason that you noticed I made that template is because I put "Converted video to Youtube template" or some variation in the summary of every edit I made to that respect. All that messy code in the pages was bugging me so much. It would've been too easy to someone to screw it up by mistake. I also hated that if you wanted to add a video, you had to find another one somewhere to copy thing code. The built-in function for showing videos sucks on its own. The code that we've been putting it in is so much better. I don't know why the people at MediaWiki didn't make it that way in the first place. But then again, if someone suggests a good idea over there, they just ignore it. I just decided to put it in a template. I think I converted every video we had to it, but I'm not sure. The search function isn't exactly helpful. It won't tell you if it is just a link, or an embedded movie. We need to inform the rest of the wiki to this template somehow. Perhaps a small note on the main page. Write it into a help page..... Hey! How are the help page rewrites coming along? It has been a while. You didn't forget it did you? I haven't heard a peep about them in months.User:Mjr162006/sig 02:33, October 29, 2008 (UTC)

you said like a billion things i will try to reply to them all but i might be dead by the time i get to the end
So yeah, I actually saw the initial creation of the template and thought "hey, sounds interesting!" After seeing it implemented, I said "very interesting! AWESOME". So yeah, definitely a good idea there, sir. It is a shame that MediaWiki tends to ignore most extension requests. I looked through that page and some stuff there from two years ago hadn't even been touched. :/
Yeah, I'll tack something into Castle Town and HEY -- I need to replace the front news thing anyway, so how about with that? I think I'll do it now !! edit: On second thought, it doesn't really seem like something that would go on the front page. Seems more Castle Town-worthy to me.
What else was there? Oh. riiiiiight.
I kind of forgot about that for a couple of months (I don't remember what might have done that - a long trip or getting sick or something probably threw me off), although a couple of weeks ago I was like "CRAP HEY WHAT I NEVER DID THAT" so I've basically been doing it again now. :P So it's definitely getting there compared to where it was a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully before too long. D: User:Ando/sig 02:51, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
So ummm... Why exactly does it take so long to write the help sections? I mean, I wrote two in under an hour each. What part is so time consuming?User:Mjr162006/sig 03:23, October 29, 2008 (UTC)
Oh, make that three. I forgot the user sig one. The other two were Image Sources and Archiving.User:Mjr162006/sig 03:26, October 29, 2008 (UTC)

Well, you gotta plan out the basic format of the entire help section (can't have rampant inconsistencies! It's supposed to look like one uniform help guide, after all!), and then plan out the basic format of each individual section -- sort of like beginning the first draft of an essay. Then you have to actually WRITE the section, sometimes taking screencaps as necessary. Go back through making sure that all links are correct, that the formatting is still consistent, etc. Not to mention that you have to make sure that the directions for various things are as simple as possible (since explaining how to make a userbox to the computer-impaired is just so much fun).
The actual sections themselves don't take so long to make. It's the... "editing" work that takes so long, I guess. Not to mention that I'm extremely pedantic and the guide has to be absolutely freaking perfect or else I'm gonna hate myself forever. Work is commencing smoothly, though, don't you worry! Then hopefully whenever someone asks a question we can just say "plz to be going to the help guide :) :) :)". User:Ando/sig 03:53, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I know that the whole point of an anyone-can-edit wiki is to have them fix your mistakes but STILL. >:(

About this template, I've actually been planning it for months. But I just never got around to it before now.User:Mjr162006/sig 07:29, October 29, 2008 (UTC)

Vandals

Ahh... it has been a while. I thought that they gave up. :P Well I fought two vandals yesterday. One here, and another on a different, much smaller wiki. The one here was wasn't the brightest vandal in the box. Since I keep the recent changes reloading all the time I caught him in the act. I called up the Captain to block him within minutes. The other vandal though... He made the biggest page I've ever seen. I'll give you the file size in code. But to protect from vandals getting the idea. I'll put it code. This page was this:

A a a a a a a a aa a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a

That line was 49 characters.Check edit view for more! That was a crazy size. But this vandal was not that evil. He made it as a new page. And he chickened out and ran when I replaced his "work" with a delete tag. I got on the site 40 minutes after he did the last round. That wiki has only one active admin. So that page will be there for some time. He hasn't been around in a week. That wiki has even slower traffic than we have. Only two registered users have edited in the last five days, I was one of them. I'm not sure I should say the wiki's name, it is about a mature subject. I still am wondering what these vandals think they get out of vandalizing pages. We may never know how their minds work. Remember that old saying! "An edit a day keeps the vandals at bay!" I'm not sure that that is true, but it is a cool saying anyway.User:Mjr162006/sig 07:04, October 29, 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that totally surprised me when I looked at the recent changes page and saw that the whole vandalizing situation had occurred. I was even on the computer at the time, I just took 10 minutes to do something real quick! And sure enough I chose the 10 minutes that a vandal chose to do his duty.
Not sure why vandals do it, either. I mean, their work isn't even normally displayed for any longer than an hour. What good is that? Why bother? I guess we'll never understand, since, you know, we... aren't vandals. But hey, as long as they aren't doing any REAL damage, I guess it's not that big a deal. It's typically just [block] -> [revert]. Fun times. Hm, I might need to come up with some way of being easily and quickly contacted in the event that another admin can't be contacted to stop someone. The only solution I can think of is being constantly logged into AIM or something, since you pretty much can't not notice a giant blinking box on your computer (I mean, I typically have the Recent Changes page reloading, yeah, but I'll check it every 5-10 minutes, long enough for SOMETHING to happen). User:Ando/sig 16:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't Skype do the same thing? I don't have it installed on this computer, but I have an account for it. I could put it on. Of course more people that can block users would be the better option. What if you hadn't showed up when you did when that Captain Ahab guy was causing chaos. His monster edits were causing so much trouble, that Captain Cornflake couldn't get the recent changes or the block user page to load, let alone the vandalized pages. If he had free reign for anther hour, it could have crashed the server. Captain Cornflake, Jason, and EA are not always on the chatroom. Adam isn't here that often. There is no way you can be here all the time, or at your computer for that matter. We need sysops. That is plural, i.e. more than one more. Once again, I think we have got three good candidates for the positions. You know who. You might want to bring that up in the staff area. My primary motivation here is not personal gain. It is to improve the security of the site. Hell, look at Zeldapedia. They have like four or five admins actively editing/guarding the wiki each day.User:Mjr162006/sig 17:19, October 29, 2008 (UTC)
Hm, I dunno. Skype is voice chat-only, right? I don't have a microphone, so I'm not sure how that would work.
I'll bring up what you've said in the staff area. No guarantees, obviously, but I'll at least bring it up. User:Ando/sig 17:33, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
No, Skype has text chatting too.User:Mjr162006/sig 17:37, October 29, 2008 (UTC)

Oh, well that's news to me. Perhaps I should try it out, then...? User:Ando/sig 17:40, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Two vandals, that's bad, good you guys got it taken care of though. You know vandals better than I do, but you might wanna be on the look out for a few days afterward, they could try to do it again like, soon. I had a vandal do something to my Fanfiction account a few days ago. They didn't do much except post some...Er..M rated content all over my profile. I cleaned it up, but how they gained access to the page I can't figure out, It's more secure then Wiki, I have to login before I can touch anything. I changed my password, but considering they found it in the first place, I doubt it will do much good :? The Sage of Cosmos 23:02, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One vandal was on a different wiki. But you made me think about something. What will we do if some vandal hacks into another person's account here? Not very likely, but scary to think about. How would we handle it? Could we even handle it? Would it just ruin that person's account forever?User:Mjr162006/sig 23:07, October 29, 2008 (UTC)
Maybe y'all have a keylogger? Y'all might want to look into your computer's security... --Felicia's Champion 01:44, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
