: Alrighty; I'll check and see if I have those images. If I do, I'll reupload them, if not, the it'll be up to the users to do so, or I'll delete the image files from the database altogether so that it doesn't give a nasty error. --Jase 05:11, 15 April 2007 (PDT)

hey. I see you've done most of the "Songs" page. I've added stuff. Hope you dont mind. Do you?

ZW Firefox Search Plugin

After having major luck putting together a working Firefox search plugin for VGRC, I was messing around and realized that if Wikipedia has one, then why not Zelda Wiki? I've got one together somewhat (hobbled together from the Wikipedia search plugin and the VGRC plugin I made) and testing reveals that it works, but I need a copy of the ZW favicon in 16x16 png format. I don't check in this place often, so hit me up on AIM; you know the sn. --Captain Cornflake 23:27, 9 October 2006 (CDT)

Deletion requests

Hi, I was wondering if you could delete Category:Creatures and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for me. Ocarina so I can move the article there to match up with the rest of the games articles, unless you feel like doing that yourself.
Also, the Category links on the Main Page can be done by typing the same as you would to categorise that page but then putting a : in front, like this:

:Category:Zelda

That way you don't have to have the external link appearance, or as much code in the source. Thank you for your time. Ian Moody 07:01, 25 Jun 2005 (CDT)

Done.

Finished with the jobs you requested. ;)

Thank you very much. :)
I was wondering if you would think it useful to have a category of pages for deletion so any pages someone thinks should be deleted could just be placed in there, or perhaps a general messageboard where people could leave requests for mod help, or just comments or requests for help from other users. We could also perhaps create something similar to one of wikipedia's deletion templates (and by create, I mean modify the code of one of wikipedia's).
Oh and also, if the disambiguation template is put in the disambiguation category, any pages using it will be put in the category to without putting the tag in the page. I'd make the change myself but the disambig template is locked. It probably won't make that much difference if we were to do it that way instead, but I thought I'd tell you. I may implement it with my Enemy and Boss templates. Ian Moody 03:14, 27 Jun 2005 (CDT)

Extension request

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to install the ParserFunctions extension so it could be used in templates? Thanks for your time. — Ian Moody (talk) 11:24, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Looks useful, so I installed it. Thanks for recommending that. It wasn't as easy installing it through my laptop, though - my normal computer up and caught fire on me and died. Should be up and running again tomorrow when the spare parts come in. (Haven't you noticed I haven't been around doing anything? That's because my compy blew up. ;) ) --Jase 12:25, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
Thanks a lot :), now I'm gonna go make full use of it in templates. I haven't been active on this myself for months but recent changes and activity have spurred me into doing stuff again. — Ian Moody (talk) 12:35, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
Great! Having an experienced wiki-er around is motivating. :) --Jin 17:55, 9 October 2006 (CDT)

Sorry to bother you again but I'm having trouble with using HTML table code inside if functions. [1] suggests "setting $wgUseTidy=true; in your LocalSettings.php" might fix the problem so if that were possible I would be grateful. — Ian Moody (talk) 13:44, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Done. Let me know if there are still problems. --Jase 15:31, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

I'm getting little errors at the top of each screen that distort the whole of the wiki's appearance, which I believe to be caused either by the extension or the variable I enabled after installing it. Are you also seeing this? If so, I would like to try disabling that variable and see if it solves the problem. --Jase 20:36, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Yeah I'm getting them too. I've posted a help request to the MediaWiki support desk but in the meantime it's probably best to just change it back to false. Hopefully there will be a way to fix it properly but if there isn't I think I can get the template working another way; it's just going to make the code harder to read, but that shouldn't be a major problem as it shouldn't be edited that often. — Ian Moody (talk) 04:19, 9 October 2006 (CDT)

Hey, I'm new

Hi. I'm Dinoshaur, and I was wondering about this wiki. I've a few questions/requests.

  • Why are there so many pages that have nothing to do with Zelda? (e.g. Chrono Trigger, English etc.)
  • Could we change the colour scheme? For one, the odd font colours and background are little painful on the eyes.
  • Could we move some of the projects (Like the Firefox plugins) on to the wiki namespace? If we changed it to Zelda Wiki.org:ZW.org Search Plugin and got a page for stuff like that (and possibly a category for them) it'd be more organised.

Peace out! --Dinoshaur 12:45, 21 December 2006 (CST)

Hey there. I'll address your requests one by one...
1.) This is probably one of the most asked questions. On top of offering a ton of Zelda info, we don't object to pages about Nintendo in general. While it's not the main focus, there is a category for "Nintendo," and there's nothing wrong with it, considering that the Zelda franchise spans far beyond just the games themselves. As for the nonsense articles like "English," they go into a category which was made for random, miscellaneous articles. Occasionally we get people who object to its existence, but generally people don't mind having a small category where random, fun articles can be created.
2.) I just redid the layout to look like what you don't like. And it was one heck of a job. Most people don't have a problem with it, so unless I get confronted by a hundred people I think I'll leave the layout as-is. ;) (Oh, and if you're really seeing ODD colors, let me know - I see dark blue and subtle grey-white, which is definitely not hard on my eyes.)
3.) That's a good idea, actually. I'll move it there.
If you have any more questions/suggestions, just keep tossing them out - I love to answer them! (Except layout stuff, I might be too lazy to completely change the layout stuff.) --Jase 14:46, 21 December 2006 (CST)

Heh, very well, if you enjoy questions and requests so much...

  • Could we add a "signatures" to preferences? There's a subst lock on it, so we need to get around that. It makes putting posts on talk pages so much more pretty. If you need the code, I could fish it out for you.
  • Could we add a tobedeleted code? If we slap it on a bad or unwanted page, it could alert you or other admins to the page in mind.
  • Is their other administrators other than yourself? Could I see a list so I know who to go to if there's a problem?
  • One last thing, do we have a list of interwiki links?

Once again, thank you for your time. --User:Dinoshaur/sig 04:05, 22 December 2006 (CST)

Alrighty, let's tackle all this...
1.) I thought that already was an option. If it's locked, I didn't know about it. Any idea how to unlock it? ;)
2.) Sure. Again, feel free to make the template (or any others you wish to make). Make sure that the template puts the corresponding articles in the "Articles for Deletion" category.
3.) There are MANY more administrators. In fact, they come from every website that manages this Wiki. While I'm the most active, they are not nonexistent, since they, too, work on the wiki. I do know that some of them might be gone for the holidays or are currently visiting relatives, so they might not respond to you. (I'm Jewish - my holiday ends tonight, and my present was the Wii.) If you want to see the full list, go here.
4.) No, I'm pretty sure we don't. Though, it would be helpful. ;)
If you have any more questions, keep 'em flying! ;) --Jase 13:31, 22 December 2006 (CST)

Quote template

Can we get a Quote template?--Herbsewell 10:34, 2 January 2007 (CST)

Sure. Just make one. (As in, don't know how, and I don't have the time to find out.) if you can do Wikipedia's, that would be great - just search their's and make it here. If the colors are off, I'll find that and fix it later. --Jase 14:06, 2 January 2007 (CST)
  • I was thinking of making a quote template for well quotes. I thought that we could take articles on people like Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, etc. and have a quote from every game that they are in.--Herbsewell 14:16, 2 January 2007 (CST)
    • Is it okay if I just copy and paste? I don't really use Wikipedia, but I am part of some wikias and actually hosted on myself, so I'll just be taking it from my favorite one.--Herbsewell 14:32, 2 January 2007 (CST)

A Link to the Past

For A Link to the Past's main picture, can we use the one from Wikipedia?--Herbsewell 15:22, 2 January 2007 (CST)

Sure, just don't copy the whole article while you take the picture! And on the topic of you last question - you can use any quotes template that suits you. As long as it serves its purpose. ;) --Jase 16:19, 2 January 2007 (CST)

Abbreviations

I've seen some articles that use "LoZ", "OoT", "TWW", etc. Some of the titles are long I must admit, but can we put the whole name for article formality?--Herbsewell 15:20, 3 January 2007 (CST)

Might I suggest something? Maybe we can abbreviate them the second time after the title is addressed... Erebus 15:26, 3 January 2007 (CST)
  • Well that's what I'm talking about. We could do that but then the article would look unprofessional and low-grade.--Herbsewell 15:32, 3 January 2007 (CST)

I believe that writing it out first and then abbreviating it would be good enough. I would like to comment on how many of the articles for items and such don't have the game they were for. I believe that should be corrected.

  • Why don't we use a system of pictures?--Herbsewell 19:02, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Eh, if this is what the conversation has come to, move it to a different page... it doesn't belong in my talk page anymore... ;) --Jase 21:10, 3 January 2007 (CST)

Healing Items

Could you change Category:Healing Items to Category:Health Restoring Items?--Herbsewell 13:09, 4 January 2007 (CST)

Eh, when I have time... right now, I don't. You can do it yourself, though. Just make the new category and switch the category tag in the articles. --Jase 14:22, 4 January 2007 (CST)

Two quick questions

Should the names of games look like this, Legend of Zelda, or like this, Legend of Zelda? The second question is why do have some articles like The Godfather that have nothing to do with Nintendo?--Herbsewell 18:50, 4 January 2007 (CST)

1 - it doesn't matter. 2 - because they exist. Check the category it's in an you'll see. --Jase 14:10, 5 January 2007 (CST)

Userboxes

Yeah, thanks for that comment. I like userboxes... but I don't know how to make them, so thanks anyway. SeanMD80 17:01, 25 January 2007 (CST)

Deletion of Pages

Hey, Jason, I just proposed a deletion of the page 1987 probably completely naively. See, I assumed that I could go to a deletion page here and tell an admin to delete it, but there doesn't seem to be anything like that here. Can you propose deletion on ZeldaWiki? If so, would anybody here know how to respond and vote? Has a page been proposed for deletion before? Is there a no deletion policy? I copied Wikipedia's deletion template's text onto 1987’s page because it wouldn't recognize the template. Please respond with any advice, including who would physically delete the page if that was the verdict. SeanMD80 16:15, 26 January 2007 (CST)

This wiki isn't as large as Wikipedia, and there are not enough active members of staff to successfully complete an entire debate about whether to delete a single page. Moreover, most pages that need deletion are obvious candidates for deletion, they just need to be found. Such is the case with 1987. Our current system is to move it into the category "Articles for Deletion", and then any sysop will have a look at it in there and do what they please with it. I suppose it wouldn't kill a person to put a reason in the talk page as to why they moved it into Articles for Deletion, but beside that, there is no real deletion system, not unless the wiki grows to abnormally large proportions like Wikipedia.
Also, keep in mind that templates don't come with MediaWiki. The templates you see in Wikipedia have been made by the userbase and staff of Wikipedia, not by the MediaWiki developers themselves. Most templates you would like to use probably do not exist because this wiki has not yet found a use for them, such as the deletion template. --Jase 17:08, 26 January 2007 (CST)

Thanks a lot for your patience. SeanMD80 15:53, 29 January 2007 (CST)

Templates

I noticed that you deleted a few of the templates ive made. at first i was a little angry, comsidering it took alot of work, but i can understand why you got rid of them. For instance, the islands template was huge and most of the arrticles didnt exist or were stubs. The enemies Template just lists some of the enemies that have been seen in a lot of the games, so i brought that one back. If there are any other templates you would want me to make or edit, just let me know.--Samson W. 14:45, 24 February 2007 (CST)

Sure, and I apologize for deleting them without telling you first - that was totally wrong of me. However, in my absolutely lame defense, I had just gotten home from vacation and didn't want to wait to get rid of weird, bulky templates... ;) Anyways, I don't mind the Enemies one as long as it's nice and compact the way it is, and expresses the most commonly seen enemies. The template should have the title "Common Enemies in the Legend of Zelda Series" (or something MUCH shorter :P) - me being impatient, I'm going to head to the template right now and figure it out. --Jase 18:27, 24 February 2007 (CST)

That fine. You shouldnt be worried about just anyone making navigation templates though, they take alot more work to make then to get rid of. Navigation templates are very important, and are very helpful. when i joined this wiki it didnt have any and that was the onl reason this wiki wasnt as good as the other i'd found. It took a while, but i figured out how to make them, and i added them, and i think it's alot better now. I want to work on categorizing things better now, so ill try and find a better way.

Wow, i was just on the other, less good zelda wiki 2, i saw that they had already uploaded pictures that i put on this wiki just 2 days ago. I was very lucky to find such awesome ganondorf art. but its ovious they took it off this wiki because it still has the same crazy filename ive given it. this goes for quite a few pictures. Also the Epona pages are almost exactly the same. On the legend of zelda series wiki page, there is a message that says that the other wiki should be the only one listed and no other Zelda wiki should be added. I dont know if this is a big deal or not, but it just kinda buggs me that their just stealing what we have. Still this wiki will always be way better then the other one.--Samson W. 21:40, 1 March 2007 (CST)

Suggestion

I started looking into the templates and realised that there are a lot more than I actually knew about; some are very useful. It made me wonder, would it be possible to create a page displaying all of the available templates (something like this) so that everyone could see what templates are available for use? I realise that we already have Categories for Navigation Templates (which, as discussed above and I agree, is sufficient as it stands), and Notice Templates, which doesn't list all of them (missing Template:Stub & Template:Accuracy, and I ended up making a bit of a mess by trying to add one!)

What I think is really missing is a list of the Layout/Formatting templates, such as:

It could also list wanted templates, like:

Adamcox82 06:29, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

That might be a good idea, but I think there should be more a wealth of templates before then. We don't have too many, which is why I never bothered putting them on one page - but if the number were increased, yes, something like that would be done. --Jase 14:12, 29 March 2007 (CDT)
Good point, I guess there aren't too many of them... In that case, anyone want to have a go at making the above "wanted" templates? (BTW, did I miss any other major ones from the above list?) Adamcox82 15:41, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

I made most of the navigation templates. I did make a masks template and a songs template. There are just too many masks and too many songs to list on a template, they were fat and larger then the articles themselves.--Samson W. 00:03, 8 April 2007 (CDT)

So then could they be wanted because some articles still have the template stuck on 'em that we forgot to remove during that cleanup? o_O --Jase 04:59, 8 April 2007 (CDT)

Downtime

First of all, great to see the wiki back alive and well, and with all recent edits in-tact; well done! I have found a slight problem though: Special:Newimages all but one of the recent image uploads seem to be corrupted (unless it's just a problem with my browser), so I guess new versions will need to be uploaded...

Alrighty; I'll check and see if I have those images. If I do, I'll reupload them, if not, the it'll be up to the users to do so, or I'll delete the image files from the database altogether so that it doesn't give a nasty error. --Jase 05:11, 15 April 2007 (PDT)
