Zelda Wiki.org News

Two Years --Jase 17:57, 16 April 2007 (PDT)

After two years of being around, Zelda Wiki.org has gone from site project to the project of many sites. It has become, supposedly, the foremost Zelda Wiki on the internet, and has over 2000 articles and over 800 users. Quite hard to believe it's turned into this!

We're Moving... Again! --Jase 04:49, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Aaaannndd... we're back! And with NO DATA LOSS! Ain't it great? I sure am happy.

To compensate for bandwidth, ZW.org is getting a nice hosting plan switch - this means we'll be moving servers. I'm not entirely sure how the hosting company does this, so there may or may not be some downtime in the near future as we make this quick move. Afterwards, however, we'll have 4000 times the bandwidth and 4 times the space! And that's only one step up to the next plan. ;)

Not Hiring Newsy People --Jase 16:22, 23 March 2007 (CDT)

Nobody applied. Go figure. I suppose people could still apply, but after two weeks and not a single person? I guess I was a little too confident that at least one person would want the job ;)...

Now you can actually cite sources! --Jase 07:16, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

Turns out that it was an extension. No wonder it wouldn't work. ;)... anyways, the <ref> tags are now FULLY FUNCTIONAL! Now you can run around citing sources all over the place.

Ganon's appearance in Twilight Princess.
Ganon, spelled with only one "n" and never two (unless you speak of a specific mistranslation), is the most well known and diabolical villain in the Zelda series. His story, along with Link's, sets the background for most major events in each Zelda game. Ganon was also the final boss in the very first Zelda game for NES.

Ganondorf's backstory was developed most thoroughly in Ocarina of Time, where he was introduced as a legendary Gerudo male; to give an accurate perspective of this importance, one male is born in the Gerudo tribe every one hundred years. His title was the "King of Thieves." In the most recent Zelda game, Twilight Princess, he is known as the Dark Lord.

Ganon possesses two widely known forms: His typical Gerudo form and his "pig" form; in the former he is known as Ganondorf, the latter as Ganon, though the two are commonly and easily swapped, and hence have become interchangeable. In Twilight Princess, Ganondorf also makes an appearance as a faux-God, enticing the newest villain, Zant, with his power.

Current Wiki Exclusive

The Legend of Zelda: A Case for Chronology - writer Joe Henson expresses his views on the true chronology of the Zelda series, including the prospect of a grand mythos surrounding the entire franchise, as well as the idea that there may be no timeline at all, just history working its cyclic nature. A very informative and well-written piece, this article takes the timeline argument to a far more original level.

Announcements / To Do's

  • Yes, we do allow articles that are not specifically about Zelda. Please see the Misc (Other) and Nintendo categories for proof. Sometimes it takes big red text for people to get this.
  • ZW.org is always looking for people who could write wiki exclusive articles. The articles can be about anything Zelda or Nintendo related. Interested in writing for Zelda Wiki.org, or already have a piece you want to submit? Send an email to jason [at] zeldawiki.org.

  • Many articles need massive cleanup to comply with ZW.org's quality standards. These articles are tagged with a cleanup box at the top of the article. Please improve these articles, especially ones that have been tagged for over a month.
  • Some articles are beginning to get long; however, none of them cite their sources. Please begin citing sources as articles grow lengthy. No matter who you are, if you're writing something that could be disputed, your best bet of keeping the content on the Wiki are citing your sources.
