The {{Term|SSHD|Ancient Cistern}} is located behind the {{Term|SSHD|Floria Waterfall|link}} past the throne of {{Term|SSHD|Faron (Dragon)|link}}. When {{Term|SSHD|Link|link}} first meets {{Term|SSHD|Faron (Dragon)}}, she is unable to stop the flow of the {{Term|SSHD|Waterfall|link}} that blocks access to the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon|link}} because of wounds {{Term|SSHD|Ghirahim|link}} gave her in an earlier battle. She asks {{Term|SSHD|Link}} to find a sample of {{Term|SSHD|Sacred Water|link}}, which can be found in the {{Term|SSHD|Skyview Spring|link}} behind the {{Term|SSHD|Skyview Temple|link}}. After {{Term|SSHD|Link}} heals her with this {{Term|SSHD|Sacred Water}}, {{Term|SSHD|Faron (Dragon)}} stops the {{Term|SSHD|Waterfall}}'s flow to allow {{Term|SSHD|Link}} passage into the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}}, leaving him to search for {{Term|SSHD|Farore's Flame|link}}.

==Themes and Navigation==

The {{Term|SSHD|Great Statue|link}} sits at the center of the {{Term|SSHD|Ancient Cistern}}, surrounded by {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)|link}}. Navigation through the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}} is interwoven with {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)}}-themed puzzles, and {{Term|SSHD|Link}} must contend with areas containing streams, stream pools, {{Plural|SSHD|Lily Pad|link}}, waterwheels, and {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)}}-filled high-pressure pipes to proceed.

Although the {{Term|SSHD|Ancient Cistern}} is a serene, {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)}}-themed {{Term|SSHD|Temple|link}}, the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}}'s lower level is an ominous abyssal underworld populated with {{Plural|SSHD|Cursed Bokoblin|link}}. The {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}} contains many drains and {{Plural|SSHD|Switch|link}}, due to its nature as a cistern. After {{Term|SSHD|Link}} obtains the {{Term|SSHD|Whip|link}} that is guarded by a {{Term|SSHD|Stalmaster|link}}, he can use it to activate many of the {{Plural|SSHD|Switch}} in the {{Term|SS|Dungeon}}, including raising and lowering the central statue, and flipping over various {{Plural|SSHD|Lily Pad}} with damaging, barbed undersides. The {{Term|SS|Whip}} is also often used to unscrew the tops of tubes, creating geysers which can lift {{Term|SSHD|Link}} to other destinations. Many sections of the {{Term|SS|Dungeon}} are submerged, which {{Term|SSHD|Link}} can navigate easily with the {{Term|SSHD|Water Dragon's Scale|link}}.

 

The underground section differs greatly from the rest of the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}}, showing puzzles and obstacles based on timing or skill rather than the manipulation of {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)}}. One portion of the underground section has {{Term|SSHD|Link}} fighting off {{Plural|SSHD|Cursed Bokoblin|link}} as the {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}}'s statue falls down from above after he obtains the {{Term|SSHD|Blessed Idol|link}}. Another section forces {{Term|SSHD|Link}} to climb up a thread as a horde of {{Plural|SSHD|Cursed Bokoblin}} attempt to pull him down. In contrast, the upper {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}} levels prefer to use {{Term|SSHD|Water (Terrain)}}-based puzzles and {{Term|SSHD|Whip}}-activated switches as {{Term|SSHD|Link}}'s main obstacles to overcome.

*The {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon|link}} appears to be based on the short story, ''{{Wp|The Spider's Thread}}''. In it, the Lord Buddha is walking through paradise and gazes into a pond, past the lotus petals veiling the water's surface, seeing into the depths of hell. There in the darkness, he sees a criminal, Kandata, who once intentionally avoided stepping on a spider. Moved to try reclaiming this man, the Buddha lowers a spider thread into hell, and Kandata starts climbing to paradise. However, other sinners begin climbing as well, and Kandata, worried that the thread will not support the weight, exclaims that it is his and his alone. At this point the thread breaks, because Kandata was worried only about his own salvation and not his fellow sinners.{{Fact|SSHD}}

*Furthermore, the architecture of this {{Term|SSHD|Dungeon}} also greatly reflects that of far-eastern temples. The statue head in the main room, the {{Term|SS|Blessed Idol|link}} key, and even {{Term|SSHD|Koloktos|link}} bear a striking resemblance to Buddha.
