The Boko Baba is an enemy which appears in The Wind Waker. It is a plant-like enemy similar to the Deku Baba, and given the possible timeline placements of The Wind Waker, it may be theorized to be an evolved descendant. It looks like a harmless Boko Bud, but when Link approaches, it springs out revealing it's monstrous head. The Boko Baba is very similar in appearance to a Venus Flytrap and even has similar "teeth" to one. It hangs out it's purple tipped, yellow tongue, and drools purple saliva, craving for the green garbed hero. A larger form of Boko Baba also appears in the game; the boss Kalle Demos.

Boko Babas are mainly found in the Forest Haven and in the Forbidden Woods. They also appear in some holes on other islands and on some floors of the Savage Labyrinth. They have an idle animation where they occasionally drool a purple liquid. They have three methods of attack; a surprise attack when it first springs out of its bud, a bite or headbutt attack, and its eating attack, which cannot be blocked. The latter can be anticipated when it licks its lips. If grabbed, Link will be vigorously chewed up, dealing up to one and a quarter heart of damage, and then be spat out afterwards. While Link is being chewed up, purple drool flies out from the Boko Baba's mouth, and sometimes Link's head clips through the Boko Baba's head; this is only seen if Link is facing towards the screen while being chewed up.

The Boko Baba has three methods of attack; a surprise attack when it first springs out of it's bud, a simple bite or headbutt attack, and its un-blockable eating attack. The latter can be anticipated when it licks it's lips, and it subsequently grabs and vigorously chews Link in it's
To defeat a Boko Baba, Link must attack it until it straightens its neck following two Sword slashes, then sever its head. If Link moves behind a Boko Baba after hitting it with the sword, its neck straightened or not, or if he moves far enough away from one, it will hide back into its bud and perform another surprise attack after a few seconds with the former instance and when Link approaches again in the latter instance. Alternatively, hitting it with the Hookshot or the Deku Leaf straighten up its neck immediately. The Boomerang can defeat them in one hit. The Skull Hammer can also be used to defeat them in one hit; doing so will cause an alternate death animation where the affected Boko Baba's head will be squashed. When defeated, depending on the Boko Baba, they may leave a Baba Bud behind. They also leave behind Boko Sticks, and almost always, a Boko Baba Seed, which can alternatively be stolen with the Grappling Hook.
large mouth, dealing 1¼ hearts of damage. Luckily, Link is too big for a Boko Baba to swallow and will be spat out.

To kill the Boko Baba, one must attack it until it straightens it's neck (following two sword slashes), and then sever it's head.  Alternatively the Boomerang will kill it in one hit. In it's normal dying animation, the head is chopped of and both bud and head disappear in a cloud of black smoke. If it is killed by being struck with the Skull Hammer, a different dying animation will follow, whereby it's head is flattened on the ground and then bursts (without the usual black smoke). Subsequently the Boko Bud will also explode.
Nomenclature
Boko Baba's Italian name, Nefentyax, is likely derived from the Nepenthes genus of carnivorous plants.

When defeated, depending upon the Boko Baba, it may leave it's bud behind intact. it also leaves behind a Boko Stick, and sometimes a Boko Baba Seed.

Baba Bud
When Link jumps into a Baba Bud, it will spit him high into the air in any direction. Upon jumping into one, as a bonus, a small amount of magic power will be recovered. This is important, because many areas require Link to use the Deku Leaf (a magic-consuming item) after jumping out of the Boko bud. It should be noted that the actual bud and a bud occupied by a Boko Baba are slightly different colors.
