{{Term/Store|Hyrule Castle||Series, BotW}} is the final {{Term|BotW|Dungeon|link}} of {{BotW}}. Prior to the second {{Term|BotW|Great Calamity|link}}, it was the government seat of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Kingdom|link}},<ref>{{Cite|{{Color|BotW Blue|Hyrule Castle}} was the governing center of Hyrule, home to the king and the beautiful princess. Brave souls from nearby villages would all set their sights there, do great deeds, and return home draped in glory. {{Color|BotW Blue|Hyrule Castle}}, once strong and proud, was corrupted by the {{Color|BotW Blue|Calamity}}...and it's still in that state today.|Uma|BotW}}</ref> ruled under {{Term|BotW|King Rhoam|link}}.<ref>{{Cite|I was King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule. When {{Term|TotK|Rauru|link}} sealed {{Term|TotK|Ganondorf|link}} underground shortly after founding his kingdom, his people constructed Hyrule Castle above the site to keep the Demon King sealed, the castle remained intact and undestroyed for ages ever since, until it was damaged during the {{Term|BotW|Great Calamity|link}} 100 years prior to the {{Term|Series|Era of the Wilds}}.<ref>{{Cite|He was imprisoned beneath Hyrule Castle for ages, but the magic holding him weakened when the castle was damaged during the calamity a century ago, and his power has steadily been growing since. {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}} is surrounded on all sides by the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Moat|link}}. The only way that {{Term|BotW|Link|link}} can approach it by land is by crossing through the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Gate|link}} from the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Town Ruins|link}} to its south. This {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Gate|display=Gate}} hides a winding path that surrounds {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}} and ultimately ends at the {{Term|BotW|Sanctum|link}}, where {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon|link}} lies. It is possible for {{Term|BotW|Link}} to approach {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}} by air with the {{Term|BotW|Paraglider|link}} or by {{Term|BotW|Swimming|link}} through the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Moat|display=Moat}}. As {{Term|BotW|Link}} nears {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}, {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}} will manifest himself and swirl through the air above the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}}, before he is contained in a radiant burst of light from {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda|link}} in the {{Term|BotW|Sanctum}}.

There are several entrances to the interior of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}, such as the {{Term|BotW|Docks|link}} in the northern side of the castle grounds, as well as tunnels built into the earth supporting it. A break in the walls of the {{Term|BotW|Lockup|link}} allow {{Term|BotW|Link}} direct access to the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}}'s prison and the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Underground|link}}. Similarly, recesses in the structures of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}} itself allow {{Term|BotW|Link}} passage to various parts of its key areas, such as with the broken roof atop the {{Term|BotW|Library|link}}.

Despite the accessibility of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}, the landscape is littered with various kinds of {{Plural|BotW|Guardian|link}} under {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}}'s control. {{Plural|BotW|Decayed Guardian|link}} and {{Plural|BotW|Guardian Turret|link}} can be found stationed along the ground and walls of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|Castle}}, and {{Plural|BotW|Guardian Skywatcher|link}} patrol the air around it. Positioned in formation along the ground just outside of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Moat}} are five {{Plural|BotW|Giant Column|link}}, atop of which {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find broken {{Plural|BotW|Guardian}} that can be searched for {{Plural|BotW|Ancient Material|link}}. These {{Term|BotW|Giant Column|display=Columns}} were used to store the legion of {{Plural|BotW|Guardian}} prior to the second {{Term|BotW|Great Calamity|link}}.<ref>{{Cite|Robbie has restored mobility to many of the Guardians we've excavated. ...But we have still yet to find all of the Guardians. Records mention a greater number of them—and even other types. They are said to be stored in five giant columns that rest beneath Hyrule Castle. The thing is... No matter how I search beneath the castle, I can't seem to locate these columns. They must be buried deep. Were they perhaps designed to sense the appearance of Calamity Ganon and to only activate upon his return?|Zelda's Research Notes|BotW}}</ref> Upon {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}}'s return, the {{Plural|BotW|Giant Column}} arose around the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}}, and he seized control of the {{Plural|BotW|Guardian}} inside.<ref>{{Cite|Ganon was cunning, and he responded with a plan beyond our imagining. He appeared from deep below Hyrule Castle, seized control of the Guardians and the Divine Beasts, and turned them against us.|King Rhoam|BotW}}</ref>

==Themes and Navigation==
Due to the presence of {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}}'s {{Term|BotW|Malice|link}}, the {{Term|BotW|Master Sword|link}} is perpetually empowered while {{Term|BotW|Link}} is at {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}. {{Plural|BotW|Pool of Malice}} can be found scattered throughout most of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}} grounds, as well as within the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}} itself. The main entrance to {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}} itself is overflowing with {{Term|BotW|Malice}}, forcing {{Term|BotW|Link}} to ascend the grounds by other means. While in the vicinity of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}, the {{Term|BotW|Sheikah Slate|link}}'s {{Term|BotW|Map|link}} displays a three-dimensional model of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}} and its entrances, as well as the positions of {{Term|BotW|Link}} and {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}}. A primary, winding road from the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Gate}} leads to the {{Term|BotW|Sanctum}}, where {{Term|BotW|Calamity Ganon}} waits. The {{Term|BotW|Bridge}} between {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda's Room|link}} and {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda's Study|link}} is the location of the 12th {{Term|BotW|Recovered Memory|link}}, " {{Term|BotW|Father and Daughter|link}}."

In a chamber connected to the southern end of the {{Term|BotW|Library}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find a {{Term|BotW|Great Frostblade|link}} embedded in a mound of rubble. This chamber leads into {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Corridors|link}}, eventually connecting to the {{Term|BotW|Square Spiral Staircase|link}}. The upper floor of the {{Term|BotW|Square Spiral Staircase|display=Staircase}} leads back into the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Corridors}}, which consists of a series of hallways that converge near the {{Term|BotW|Dining Hall|link}}.

From the pathway between {{Term|BotW|Lockup}} and the {{Term|BotW|West Passage|link}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can enter the {{Term|BotW|Water Pump Room|link}}, which leads him out of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Underground}}. This {{Term|BotW|Updraft|link}} in the {{Term|BotW|Water Pump Room}} brings {{Term|BotW|Link}} to a hallway. The right path of leads outside to the grounds of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle}} near {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda's Room}}, while the left path leads back into the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Corridors}} and the {{Term|BotW|Guards' Chamber|link}}. The hallway leading to the {{Term|BotW|Guards' Chamber}} ends in two doorways, one of which is blocked by {{Term|BotW|Malice}} controlled by a {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball|link}}, which can summon {{Plural|BotW|Cursed Lizalfos|link}} to attack Link. Destroying the {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball}} will open the path forward, allowing {{Term|BotW|Link}} to continue further into the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Corridors}}, where he finds a {{Term|BotW|Cooking Pot|link}}.

Here, {{Term|BotW|Link}} will find two accessible doors, the first of which leads down into the {{Term|BotW|Guards' Chamber}}, while the latter leads to the entrance along the road nearest the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Gate}}. Another doorway is blocked by an immovable wall of {{Term|BotW|Malice}}, prohibiting direct access to the {{Term|BotW|Reception Room|link}} and {{Term|BotW|Observation Room|link}}.

The other doorway in the initial path to the {{Term|BotW|Guards' Chamber}} leads to the {{Term|BotW|Round Spiral Staircase|link}}, which is blocked by another {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball}}. If destroyed, the {{Term|BotW|Malice}} covering the {{Term|BotW|Round Spiral Staircase|display=Staircase}} will disappear, allowing {{Term|BotW|Link}} access to the colonnade along the road near the {{Term|BotW|First Gatehouse|link}}. This area once functioned as a garden.<ref>{{Cite Book|quote= |book= CaC |publisher= |page= 240}}</ref> A single {{Term|BotW|Guardian Turret}} can be found inside the colonnade.

===Path to the Sanctum===
To the right of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Gate}} stands a tower which holds a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest|link}} containing five {{Plural|BotW|Bomb Arrow|link}}. The roof of this tower also bears a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} containing five {{Plural|BotW|Ice Arrow|link}}. The main road to the {{Term|BotW|Sanctum}} continues to the west of this tower, beyond a {{Term|BotW|Decayed Guardian}} on the roadside. The path along the road is interrupted by a strip of {{Term|BotW|Malice}} covering the ground along the road, and there are steep cliffs on either side. A nearby doorway offers a detour into the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)|display=Castle}}'s interior, near the {{Term|BotW|Guards' Chamber}}. From there, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can return to the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Courtyard|link}} just beyond the strip of {{Term|BotW|Malice}}. {{Term|BotW|Link}} can remove this {{Term|BotW|Malice}} by striking the {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball}} on its far side, clearing the roadway. A {{Term|BotW|Natural Hiding Spot|link}} can be found nearby, and if {{Term|BotW|Link}} lifts this {{Term|BotW|Rock|link}}, a {{Term|BotW|Korok|link}} will appear and give him a {{Term|BotW|Korok Seed|link}}.<ref name="Korok">{{Cite|Yahaha! You found me!|Korok|BotW}}</ref>

The aforementioned courtyard sits beneath a second tower, guarded by a {{Term|BotW|Guardian Turret}}. On the floor inside the tower sits a {{Term|BotW|Rusty Shield|link}}, and a {{Term|BotW|Royal Bow|link}} can be found on the end of the wall north of the tower. The main road continues along a curved slope in front of the tower into the {{Term|BotW|First Gatehouse}}. The main road continuing from the {{Term|BotW|First Gatehouse}} is obstructed by a massive cluster of {{Term|BotW|Malice}}. However, a side road branching from the main road across a small {{Term|BotW|Bridge}} and underneath a colonnade. The side road continues along the path until it is obstructed by the remains of a landslide, where a {{Term|BotW|Decayed Guardian}} watches from an angle. An unmarked branch of this road continues left, down a flight of stairs into the northern entrance of the {{Term|BotW|Library}}. However, it is possible for {{Term|BotW|Link}} to simply walk around the rubble and continue along the side road. Beyond the landslide sits a pool of {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)|link}} beside the road. A metallic {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} containing five {{Plural|BotW|Bomb Arrow}} is hidden underwater. A {{Term|BotW|Guardian Skywatcher}} patrols the road near the pool.

Beyond the pool of {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)}}, the side road continues to another landslide. When {{Term|BotW|Link}} approaches the landslide, an inactive {{Term|BotW|Guardian}} will fall from above. {{Term|BotW|Link}} can walk along the narrow strip of land around the landslide to continue along the side road which passes the {{Term|BotW|Dining Hall}}. The road continuing from the {{Term|BotW|Bridge}} beyond the {{Term|BotW|Dining Hall}} meets back with the main road, on the other side of the massive collection of {{Term|BotW|Malice}}. An {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball}} can be found on this side of the {{Term|BotW|Malice}}, and destroying it will clear the main road for {{Term|BotW|Link}} to travel between his position and the {{Term|BotW|First Gatehouse}}. From here, the main road continues along to the {{Term|BotW|Second Gatehouse|link}} nearby.

The main road beyond the {{Term|BotW|Second Gatehouse}} curves around a series of stone walls. Along the wall on the inward curve of the road is a tower that holds a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} with five {{Plural|BotW|Bomb Arrow}} stored inside. A second stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} on the roof of this tower holds five {{Plural|BotW|Shock Arrow|link}}. After the main road curves around the tower and its corresponding wall, it is once again obstructed by a thin strip of {{Term|BotW|Malice}} connected to an {{Term|BotW|Glowing Eyeball}} between two thin, short towers. Beyond this strip of {{Term|BotW|Malice}}, the main road curves once more before turning straight for the entrance of the {{Term|BotW|Sanctum}}. A ledge beneath the final curve hosts a cracked boulder, which can be bombed to unveil a {{Term|BotW|Natural Hiding Spot}}. When {{Term|BotW|Link}} lifts it, another {{Term|BotW|Korok}} will appear and give him a {{Term|BotW|Korok Seed}}.<ref name="Korok"/>

===Unmarked Paths===
Beyond the {{Term|BotW|Bridge}} crossing between {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda's Room}} and {{Term|BotW|Princess Zelda's Study}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find a small tower to the left-hand side of the side road. The roof of this tower holds a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} with five {{Plural|BotW|Ice Arrow|link}}. At the bottom of this tower is a small, unmarked path trailing down the side of the {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle Courtyard}}'s grounds. At the end of this path stands a pool of {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)}}, from which a metallic {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} can be retrieved with {{Term|BotW|Magnesis}} to yield 10 {{Plural|BotW|Ice Arrow}}. A stone wall along the ledge of this path bears two towers. Two stone {{Plural|BotW|Treasure Chest}} can be found the roofs of both towers, both containing bundles of five {{Plural|BotW|Bomb Arrow}}. A larger pool of {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)}} near the second tower hides a {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} containing five {{Plural|BotW|Ice Arrow}}. A break in the road along the stone wall leads to the entrance to {{Term|BotW|Lockup}} and the {{Term|BotW|Docks}}.

Across the dried remains of a {{Term|BotW|Waterfall|link}} at the top of the slope near where the unmarked road begins sits a cracked rock, which hides a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} containing five {{Plural|BotW|Bomb Arrow}}. A tower stands beneath a series of ledges from this {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest|display=Chest}}, and atop this tower's roof, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} that holds five {{Plural|BotW|Fire Arrow|link}}. Another cracked boulder sits along the ground closest to the cliff on the interior portion of the stone wall connected to this tower. Beneath the cracked boulder is a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} that holds five {{Plural|BotW|Shock Arrow}}. A third cracked boulder sits on the ledge southeast of the stone wall. The stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} underneath holds {{Term|BotW|Dinraal's Scale|link}}.

Following the path around the grounds of {{Term|BotW|Hyrule Castle (Breath of the Wild)}}, {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find the entrance to the {{Term|BotW|East Passage|link}}. The ledge beneath the entrance to the {{Term|BotW|East Passage}} holds a fourth cracked boulder, under which {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find a {{Term|BotW|Silver Rupee|link}} in a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}}. A stone wall sits on the ledge above the entrance to the {{Term|BotW|East Passage}}, where a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} can be found atop the roof of the wall's corresponding tower. This {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} contains three {{Plural|BotW|Ancient Arrow|link}}. The stone wall encompasses the exterior of the {{Term|BotW|Library}}, where {{Term|BotW|Link}} can find a fifth cracked boulder that hides {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} with a {{Term|BotW|Ruby|link}}. The {{Term|BotW|Water (Terrain)}} north of the cracked boulder features a {{Term|BotW|Circle|link}} of {{Plural|BotW|Lily Pad|link}}, which {{Term|BotW|Link}} can jump into to reveal a {{Term|BotW|Korok}}.<ref name="Korok"/> Also in these waters is a metallic {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} that holds five {{Plural|BotW|Ice Arrow}}.

A land {{Term|BotW|Bridge}} from the nearby tower continues to an empty ledge overlooking another tower. The stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} atop the roof of this tower holds five {{Plural|BotW|Shock Arrow}}. The wall north of this tower holds a giant stone slab which can be moved by using {{Term|BotW|Stasis}} in conjunction with a {{Term|BotW|Weapon|link}}. Underneath this slab is a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} containing a {{Term|BotW|Silver Rupee}}. In the vacant space created by this wall sits a sixth cracked boulder, which holds a stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest}} with a {{Term|BotW|Gold Rupee|link}}. The southern extension of the tower's wall leads into a cliff, where another walled tower stands at the top. The stone {{Term|BotW|Treasure Chest|display=Chest}} on this tower's roof contains five {{Plural|BotW|Fire Arrow}}. The wall from this tower leads up a rock ledge, the path of which meets with the road near the {{Term|BotW|Dining Hall}}.
