Characteristics
As a relative of the ALttP, ALttP have a similar appearance, but appear massively bloated and float a short distance above the ground. They will float towards ALttP before exploding, scattering small ALttP into the air and across the ground that will hurt ALttP if he comes into contact with them. These Octoroks will bounce around before disappearing after a few moments, although they can be destroyed before this happens. A floating ALttP will also explode if struck, so there is no way to destroy it safely. Notably, only a single ALttP can be found in ALttP, on the eastern shore of ALttP.

In the Game Boy Advance version of the game however, a single, orange ALttP appears in the ALttP alongside orange ALttP in an icy room on way to the chamber where ALttP has to defeat ALttP for the second time. It is identical to the one found in the overworld, but its palette is affected by the room's properties.

Octoballoons are inhabitants of the wetlands of Hyrule in A Link to the Past. Link has only seen one of these mysterious creatures in his journeys. This octopus uses some method to hover above the ground, standing in wait of prey or danger. When it senses danger, it will bloat and explode, ripping its egg sac apart and releasing tiny larvae that roam around the land, which die or burrow into the ground a few moments after birth. Quite notably, only one Octoballon is found in A Link to the Past, although it respawns as every other enemy in the area.
