Pronouns

I've been seeing these "Pronoun" sections added to a lot of different infoboxes - what's the point of them? Shouldn't it be obvious enough as to not warrant them being there? Mistress Fi (talk) 17:51, 21 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

something about appealing to transgenders/genderfluids/etc. because gasp i'm offended you assumed their gender Peanutjon (talk) 01:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Couth, Peanutjon. I'll ask you to refrain from strawman arguments like that.
It was a policy decision that came into effect the other day by majority vote. The short answer is that, yes, it's necessary. User:Tony/sig 02:11, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
I wasn't trying to argue? Also, it doesn't really count as a straw man if I legitimately believed that that was the case.
If it isn't some weird appeal-to-the-liberals scheme, what was the actual reasoning? Is it really dangerous to assume that a guy with a beard and moustache who also happens to go mostly shirtless without any boobs visible is a guy, like his "pronouns" say? ...Forgive me for being so blunt, but that...seems utterly ridiculous. Apart from Sheik and Fi, I don't believe there's ever been an issue of a character's gender either in any game or outside of them. Even if it's something that has to be addressed, does it really have to be so blatant and sloppy-looking? The article itself already addresses characters by their appropriate pronouns - if they have to be in the infobox, why not just change it to a "Gender" heading or something? Mistress Fi (talk)
