Western Hyrule is the location where The Adventure of Link begins, and where the North Palace is found. The towns found in this area are Rauru, Ruto, Saria, and the port town of Mido. The Moruge Swamp and Graveyard can also be found here. Three of the palaces are found here. By finding the Raft in the Island Palace, Link can drift to Eastern Hyrule.
