The [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fr1Z07AV00 announcement trailer] shows Link and Zelda exploring a dungeon, possibly underneath Hyrule Castle.  They arrive in a cavern, where Ganondorf’s corpse is laid across a pedestal.  A mysterious pale green glowing hand reaches down, and the corpse is reawakened.  This results in an earthquake, and the screen then cuts to a view of Hyrule Castle from the [[Great Plateau]]. As the ground shakes, the castle is seen rising into the air. Text is displayed, confirming that the sequel to {{BotW|-}} is now in development, and the trailer ends.

During the Nintendo Direct E3 2021 on June 15, 2021, the first gameplay trailer was shown and it was revealed that this game is scheduled to be released in 2022. In the trailer, it showed malice gradually bubbling up as tendrils, with brief shots of Link's arm getting infected by Malice, a zombified Ganondorf raising his arms up dramatically, and Zelda falling down a deep chasm alongside several rocks. It then cuts to gameplay showing Link skydiving, hang-gliding, and running around in an area resembling Skyloft, a mechanical entity with a single eye and a serpentine neck, Mokoblins and rock creatures attacking, as well as Link showing off new abilities via his enhanced arm such as summoning and aiming giant spiked metal balls, creating a flamethrower-like effect, and becoming a liquid drop to phase through ceilings and floors. The trailer concludes with showing the ruins of Hyrule Castle being violently lifted up from the ground via a huge mass of malice, and concluding by showing a lingering and ominous faraway shot of Hyrule Castle being held aloft by the Malice before stating it will be released in 2022.<ref>{{Cite web|quote= |published= June 15, 2021|retrieved= June 15, 2021|url= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi-MRZBP91I9|title= Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - E3 2021 Teaser - Nintendo Direct|site= YouTube|type= }}</ref>
