There are 3 shields available for use in Ocarina of Time. However, only two of them are required to complete the game.
Deku Shield
The Deku Shield is the starting shield in Ocarina of Time. This is a wooden shield that can be burnt. It is bought from the shop in the Kokiri Forest for 40 rupees. This shield is required to enter the Great Deku Tree. Adult Link is unable to use this shield
Hylian Shield
The Hylian Shield is a metal shield found in Ocarina of Time. Both Young Link and Adult Link and equip this shield. Young Link can't use it to block frontal attacks, because the shields is too big.
Mirror Shield
The Mirror Shield is an item found in the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time. It is used to solve puzzles and reflect light, though it can't be used to hit Ganondorf's attacks back at him. The shield is required to beat Twinrova. Young Link is unable to use this shield.
