Veran is the antagonist of Oracle of Ages. She is the Sorceress of Shadows and possesses the ability to possess people (including Impa, Nayru, and Queen Ambi). She first meets Link while controlling Impa and tricks him into moving a boulder that can only be moved by "One who bears the Triforce". She then tricked him into getting close to Nayru, and then let go of Impa to seek her new host. Once she takes control of Nayru, she travels back in time to alter history.
As Nayru, Veran tricks Queen Ambi into trusting her and beginning construction on the Black Tower. Link eventually confronts her, but Veran tells him that if he were to attack her, only Nayru would bear the damage. She could Teleport and shoot fireballs in a spiraling arc around the room. When hit with a Mystery Seed, Nayru would fall asleep making Veran leave her body, then by separating her from Nayru using the Switch Hook, she was vulnerable to attack.
When Nayru was freed, Veran managed to take control of Queen Ambi and fled to the newly built Black Tower. In the final battle with Link, she retained her previous attack pattern in addition to summoning small spiders to harass Link. When Ambi was freed from her control, Veran transformed into her true form: a fairy-like being. She flew around the room spitting fireballs of various types and created four "shadow Links" as a small obstacle. She is defeated again and the Black Tower begins to crumble. However, Link falls to the base of the tower along with Veran. She assumes a trio of monsterous forms (all of which she despised) to attack Link. After a series of metamorphoses, she is eventually defeated (though not before she lit the Flame of Sorrow, one of the three flames needed by Twinrova to revive Ganon).
