Breath of the Wild features several different pieces of equipment to use as protection.

Overview

The diverse range of Shields available allows for Link to deviate from the standard Sword and Shield dynamic. Many of these Shields follow a simple series of archetypes, such as "Boko," "Soldier's," and "Traveler's."

By using a shield while jumping, Link is capable of Shield Surfing, at the cost of the Shield's integrity.

Each shield (even duplicate shields of the same type) occupy a separate slot.

Like weapons, shields can can also have the following modifiers:

  • Enhanced
  • Spiked (+7 damage to base damage)
  • Strengthened
