Watchers are enemies in Skyward Sword.[1] Along with the Guardians, they protect and patrol the Silent Realm.
Characteristics
Watchers, along with Guardians, patrol the Silent Realm from outside intruders. Unlike the Guardians, the Watchers will not actively hunt Link and are not affected by the Sacred Tears, and thus will not be stunned by its power. The Watchers patrol the Realm in a set path by shining a beam of light produced by the lanterns they carry. If Link passes through this light, the Watcher will emit a loud shriek that will awaken and alert the Guardians to Link's location, canceling the effects of the Sacred Tears no matter how much time Link has remaining.
Watchers come in two variations: Sky Watchers and Earth Watchers. Sky Watchers patrol the air with a light focused on the ground in a fixed route. They are relatively easy to avoid, though they can be difficult in narrow areas or when in large groups, such as in the Pumpkin patch of Skyloft's Silent Realm, where four of them encircle a solitary Sacred Tear.
Earth Watchers hover near the ground and will chase Link if he comes too close in range to them; however, the young hero can outrun them by dashing. Earth Watchers give away their position in ways that give Link warning so he is not caught off guard. A visual cue is that the Earth Watchers have dimmer, larger light radii, and it is safe for Link to be caught in this light, as long as their brighter direct light does not touch him. They also have an audible cue, as Earth Watchers will give off a jingling sound upon noticing Link.
