Listed below is a rough listing of notable Legend of Zelda fansites that have been created since the advent of the internet.

1997

  • North Castle - Initially launched in the summer of 1997, North Castle is the longest actively running Zelda website on the internet. One of the primary features at the website, is a full library of fan fictions and fan artwork.

1998

  • Ganon's Tower - One of the oldest running website, Ganon's Tower initially launched in 1998. In 2008, the main portion of the site was removed and it remains online as a Zelda based forum.
  • Hyrule.net - One of the largest running websites on the net, Hyrule.net initially launched in December of 2008. Celebrating over 10 years online, Hyrule.net has a community forum of over 5000 registered years. The site recently launched Hyrule.net 3.0.
  • Hyrule: The Land of Zelda - Founded by Falco-X in 1998, HTLOZ was the largest Zelda fan website around during the late 90's. Upon its disappearance, numerous refuge sites popped up, with the most recent being HTLOZ II

1999

  • Great Deku Tree - Originally launched in 1999 by Attrox as part of the massive ZeldaGames.com network. The site grew to become one of the largest Zelda sites online before its sudden closure near the end of 2004.
  • [Hyrule.com.ar]] - The site was originally released in 1999. Between 2000 and 2002, Hyrule.com.ar was the largest Zelda website online. It succeeded HTLOZ and preceded Zelda Universe
  • LegendOfZelda.com - LoZ.com originally launched in 1999. The site went through a long history, dealing with legal problems with Nintendo, years of downtime, until a relaunch in 2004. It is one of the largest Zelda communities with over 19,000 members.
  • Zelda Legends - Released in 1999, Zelda Legends became a hit website when it merged with its hostee, Legends of Zelda. Zelda Legends is one of the largest media based Zelda sites, with a massive gallery, manga, comics, Zelda books, and more.

2001

  • Zelda Dungeon - Launched on August 19th, 2001 by Mases Hagopian, Zelda Dungeon is a well known for providing in-depth game walkthroughs and strategy guides. The site is currently one of the largest Zelda websites on the net.
  • Zelda Elements - Relased in August of 2001, Zelda Elements was one of the most prominent Zelda sites during the early 2000s. The site was the network Zelda website at Gamespy, and one of the most well recognized sites because of its stand out layouts.
  • Zelda Universe - Launched in February of 2001 by Lars-Christian Simonsen, Zelda Universe has the largest Zelda community on the net, with a community message board of over 50,000 registered members and over 2.5 million posts.

2002

  • Exploding Deku Nut - Launched on November 25, 2002 by Dart Citrus, Exploding Deku Nut has taken on the comedy side of the Zelda community with humorous comics amongst other features. Exploding Deku Nut also runs the annual Golden Item Awards.
  • History of Hyrule - Melora launched History of Hyrule in 2002. Melora and the website are well known for their contributions of rare Zelda Comics and Zelda Manga, of which many have been translated into the English language.

2003

  • Just Zelda - Launched on August 11th, 2003, Just Zelda has gone through numerous web hosts and two webmasters. The site is most well known for its personal fan game 'Zelda, Just Beginning'.

2005

  • Hylian Help Desk - The site launched in 2005, and after a short while, it replaced Zelda Elements as the network Zelda website on the Gamespy gaming network. The site has not been actively updated since the winter of 2006-2007.
  • The Hylia - Launched on October 1st, 2005 by TSA, the site was the successor to ZHQ2. The site became well known as a quick and credible source for Zelda news. The site has since changed hands and is now run by DSCUBED.

2006

  • Forsaken Legend - Started by Sam Brereton in 2006, Forsaken Legend went on to merge other Zelda websites, Zelda Temple and Zelda Cavern. After administrative issues, the website was taken offline. A relaunch was planned, but in 2008, the site was closed for good.

2007

  • ZeldaInformer - Originally created as an offspring of Zelda Universe in July of 2007, ZeldaInformer is the current home of the well known group of writers, The Bombers. In the summer of 2007, the website merged with Absolute Zelda.
