Template:Character Error is a citizen of the Town of Ruto in The Adventure of Link.

A rather infamous NPC, he is found inside of a house, which usually denotes that the occupant has something vital to tell Link, but he merely repeats his single line of "I AM ERROR" until Link meets a second man in the Harbor Town of Mido,[1] at which point an attempt to converse with Error will provide Link with information on how to find the passage to the Island Palace.[2]

In the other towns, men similar in appearance to Error often say unhelpful lines when Link talks to them.[3] Although, one of them, in Rauru, tells Link about the Fire Spell[4] and another one, in the Hidden Town of Kasuto, tells him how to find the Three Eye Rock Palace.[5]

Trivia

"I am Error."
  • It is likely that the name Error is a joke from the developers, since he is close friends[citation needed] and quest-related to the character Bagu. "Bagu" would be the romanization of the Japanese way of writing the word "bug". As such, "error" and "bug" refer to a computer's malfunctioning.
    • It's also likely that his name is a mistransliteration of "Errol". If so, he would possibly be named after actor Errol Flynn, best known for playing swordsmen, particularly Robin Hood.
  • Error's single, seemingly unhelpful line was met with confusion and amusement from many players, giving him almost legendary status in fandom.
  • In the Wii video game, Super Paper Mario, one of the first bosses of the game is a robotic dragon named Fracktail who is attacked by an evil character, Dimentio. Upon being attacked, the dragon malfunctions and begins to say several incoherent phrases, one of which is "I AM ERROR".
  • エラー can also be translated as "Ellor".
