Gerudo Typography is the written language of the Gerudo, as confirmed by Hyrule Historia.[1] Consisting of 26 different characters, it is directly based on the modern Latin alphabet. It appears at the Gerudo's Training Ground and in the Spirit Temple of Template:OOT and sparsely in the Arbiter's Grounds of Twilight Princess.

Trivia

  • The alphabet is written in the its order on the stone to the left for the stairs at the entrance of the Spirit Temple of Template:OOT.
  • The "y" in the Gerudo Typography bears resemblance to the "y" found in the medieval runic alphabet, or fuþark.[2]
  • The usage of only two single numbers (1 and 5) highly suggests that the Gerudo numerical system is a simplified variation of Roman Numerals. It is possible that counting would consist of the two available numbers being used consecutively to reach the desired number. For example, 6 would be written "5 1", ten would be written "5 5" and fifty five would thus be written with eleven consecutive 5's.
  • A font of the Gerudo Typography was constructed by Sarinilli shortly after scans of Hyrule Historia revealed the existence of the alphabet.
